Thieves

I was with RBC /Aviva for 5 years and since the last year, they demanded to pay in full without instalments or 70%, 30% options as they had and let me pay. They increased my premium for more than $300! I have never had any claims or accidents in my life. And when I tried to call to cancel my insurance during the COVID lockdown, it was impossible to reach any of the representatives as well the line was all the time busy! After trying several days and wasting my time (5 to 6 hours daily) finally I had the only first and last chance to speak with a representative to cancel my policy, he was taking his decisions over mine, that I have to have insurance (even that I'm not using the vehicle). Now they sent me a cancellation letter with an outstanding balance of 3 months? They are dishonest sending registered mails that do not require your signature! (something that I never heard before) to put you more in trouble. Hope more people get aware of this and boycotts Aviva shady practices.

Check your yearly increases

by John on Apr 8, 2020
1.5 out of 5 stars

My insurance went from $1100 to $1600 (approx.) in one year, no accidents, no tickets. I continue to be retired. The only difference was I am now a year older 67 and now 68. My wife has a similar story to tell $1000 to $1300 (approx.). Didn't notice until it was too late, I am angry with myself and OTIP. The Government's expectation is that the insurance rate should increase between 0 to 4% for the 2019-2020 season.

Awful company

Been a customer for over 3 years, spent almost $5000 with them to insure my truck. No accidents, no claims, always paid monthly on time, 9-star driver rating. Receive letter (which is registered for some reason) without thanking me for being a customer saying your renewal will expire, you will have to fill out a form otherwise we will not renew you, and you will have to pay an annual lump sum. The quote was an extra $600/year. No thank you - will not use again and would urge others not to either.

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Scammers!

I've been with them for 3 years. Last year my bank did a mistake with my credit card and I even didn't know. I received a new card but the payment was already declined for Aviva. I called them and they said that I lost my premium and I need to pay $50 fees for late payment. I sent the proof from the bank and, right... THEY NEVER ACCEPTED. All were AUTO payments! So I did it anyway because I had to drive that day... My luck to call and check for my plates. So I paid the downpayment first and last month and this year, they charged me the last month with the new increased amount!!! The last month was paid already and they charged me again but with the amount from the future policy! Aviva is just scammers! I had 2 Europeans from customer support. They were amazing, old guys. The rest... so sad!! bad service!!! Also, The insurance this year with $470 more for... what? I never had an accident, claim or ticket in 14 years of driving!

Worst customer service

I’ve had RBC auto insurance (underwritten by Aviva) for at least 6 years now. I chose this because I banked with RBC. Figured there would be some loyalty rewards. Fast forward 6 years to today. I’ve never claimed an accident or anything at all. Not for auto. For home. For life. For anything. I’ve just systematically been paying my premiums. Out of the blue, they tell me my policy will be cancelled 10/01/19 because I never filled out an application that was never received. They let me worry about coverage for days before confirm that I was still covered until they had reviewed my application. Almost a month later, 10/30/19, I get another letter saying I had $1890 past due. This coincidentally is my annual premium amount. I called customer service to inquire what this is about, as for my tenure as a client, I’ve always paid monthly. Auto withdrawals never skipped a beat. Now the guy who takes my call informs me that this is a new law. Everyone in AB must pay annually. I asked, can I maybe pay half now. And half in two weeks when I get paid? Nope. No way around it. Must pay in full by 11/04/19 or my policy is cancelled. Asked if this was regarding some new legislation being passed (given we just had a provincial election not too long ago, and a federal one a few weeks ago). Guy then fesses up, says it’s a new policy Aviva under RBC is enforcing. I ask him then, to see what other policies I have active. And word for word he tells me, “ there are over 25 pages with people with the same last name as yours. And you want me to find you?” At this point, I was shocked. 1. Have you not already pulled my account? 2. If so, do it again. Use my first and last name.DOB, address, number etc. He then repeated himself. And I replied with “so you’re saying that it is beyond you and your scope of work to search for any policies I am currently still paying for? Answer carefully because I know this is recorded”. He then quickly finds the knowledge to search. And abruptly tries to transfer me to someone else. I told him never mind. As he’s been enough help for me today. I end the call and call another insurance. They’re more than happy to help me. They’re more than happy to get my business. All that, and guess what, even saves me $200 annually. I call RBC back to cancel. And this new representative tells me there is a cancellation fee for cancelling midterm. I argue and say, I would love to have had continued my policy. But you’re asking for a large amount of money, and the time frame of less than two weeks is ridiculous. Not to mention, the audacity of strong-arming me do this without any warning or notice. They told me I had to pay for the one month over coverage for the month of October. I was covered it never got width drawn. So I agreed to this payment. But then they tried to tack on a random $283 charge on top of the $167 premium for the month. I asked for a cost break down. On where they’re pulling this cancellation fee. And she told me it’s because I’m cancelling. Ironically, I’m only cancelling because they backed me into a corner. Either I had to fork up over almost $2000 and if I didn’t want to oh that right away then my conciliation prize was the cancellation fee? Not today RBC. I argued a bit more. And they decided to waive the cancellation fee. Long story short, RBC insurance. And Aviva, the underwriter, are crooks through and through. I warn anyone reading this. Beware.

Terrible Terrible Company

I have the same experience as most other people. After paying premiums for 15 years, my car insurance was cancelled after a no-fault accident and now my house is in cancelled because of a $10,000 flood claim. They downgraded my driving rating to a new driver for a no-fault accident. This company is not accredited by the better business bureau and I'm surprised that RBC associates themselves with such unscrupulous business practices.

62% increase Car rates 2019

by Daveb on Aug 31, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

As a family we have two vehicles with Aviva and we have no claims, no tickets ( perfect driving records), are both over 64 years old and out of the blue our new insurance rates have gone up 62% year over year with ‘no’ explanation and less than one month to explore all options. Customer service has no explanations except to blame all other drivers for this increase and no empathy or care for their clients. We have been with RBC for over 15 years and will now explore how to explore the appropriate changes in advance of the 2020 renewals as we look to change. Too late for this year but rest assured our house, cottage and vehicles will no longer be with Aviva next year. Please check carefully your policy renewals and start the process of finding the right rate in a very confusing industry with only corporate profits as the motive for change.

Cancellation notice

by Scollier on Jul 30, 2019

Thank you RBC and Aviva Insurance... after 28 years with RBC Insurance and now Aviva they cancel our insurance because my 24-year-old son was driving 140 in a 100 zone on a 400 series highway....yup, going way too fast for sure. He is 24 and his only ticket, no tickets or accidents for my wife and me or accidents. I estimate over 28 years we have paid over $236,000 in premiums for our life insurance, home, rental properties and auto without a single claim....currently we pay a tad over $1,000 per month in premiums with Aviva for all of our business....absolutely blown away that for one mistake over 28 years, we are dropped at renewal date. Isn't insurance for when you make a mistake or have a claim? After speaking with RBC, the operator said " thank you for calling RBC and we value your business " lol, they simply do not care about relationships...oh well, I am sure another provider will value having our auto, life, home and rental property policies...

Goodbye Aviva!

Got my renewal notice from Aviva, and all of a sudden they're asking for the FULL premium upfront. I DON'T THINK SO AVIVA... I am a long-time client, no claims, no tickets. And you've gone and lost my business with this boneheaded move. DO NOT sign up with Aviva. They'll drop something like this on you without warning, and you'll be left scrambling to make other arrangements if you can't come up with the coin in 45 days.

Car Insurance Renewal

by rhonda on May 3, 2019

I was a with RBC - Aviva until I was fired today as a client when they refused to renew my insurance. They cited I missed some information on the application paperwork that they had received AND instead of calling me or worse emailing me to call them, they sent a letter which I got just yesterday to which I called them at 8 this am, and then after making me redo the paperwork again over the phone they refused my renewal, because they said my insurance expired at midnight - unbelievable!!! Even though they had ALL my information on file already, otherwise why would they have insured me for all these years? This, after having NO claims, NO speeding tickets and a flawless driving record for 25+ years. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!
