Whenever you need them, they will let you down. They terminate your benefits while you’re still undergoing cancer treatment.
Manulife is the most frustrating company I have ever had to deal with.
I asked before enrollment what are the eligible expenses under our PSA. I was told financial services was included. I called again to ask exactly what financial services were included. I was told X was included.
I submit a claim for X and it was denied. I call back 3 times and resubmitting things until I find out X is not covered but Y is. I submit a claim for Y. It also doesn't go through. I call to ask why.
The service rep tells me only dental services are covered. I said that doesn't make sense. I do some digging and it turns out Financial services was completely taken off. What's going on?
I pointed out it seems Manulife is playing around and changing things. She said they don't do that. Right.
Their services reps are clueless. Their claims department deny everything. There's no consistency. The website has no email contact option. While waiting for their call centre they can suddenly put me on a silent line that never gets picked up.
Stressful and absolutely terrible.
We don`t even get instant reimbursement for drugs, the system is a nightmare and they keep raising the cost on us, plus as truckers we have to pay the whole thing outright out of our pay cheque, the company isn't allowed to cover anything for us. we get nothing in terms of coverage and in fact they keep diminishing. And every time we put in a claim they mess something up and we end up owing them money. Its a scam. Stay away from Manulife. Although, judging by the reviews I've seen its looking like the industry as a whole is in terrible need of a clean up.
Keep denying dental claim because dentist in Ontario used Ontario dental codes. Employer in BC so will only accept BC codes. Got the BC codes from a dentist in BC and they still denied claim.
Canadians are free to live and work in different provinces, so this is a ridiculous and discriminatory policy.
Worst decision ever, for my Employer to switch to Manulife. Every claim takes a week, then, usually, denied even though it's a medical expense from my health spending account. That's MY spending account, not Manulife funds. I call, then wait another week for payment. Happens every time. I can't even access the balance on the app or website...I have to call Customer Service about that too. Ridiculous service and I know other employees are having the same poor experience. Will not purchase any other, personal, insurance through this company and, definitely, not deposit any spending account funds here again.
My group benefits plan has an allowance for health care and an allowance for a health care spending account. Once I started submitting claims where the balance of the 80/20 spend was covered by the health care spending account they then started charging the entire balance to the spending account rather than actually covering any of the expenses themselves. This is frustrating because the balance of this account, if not used is transferred to the following year. I consider this theft. They would find garbage excuses to not remit the funds, requesting documents never requested before such as doctor's notes for massage therapy or physiotherapy or the like, and not accepting claims because the receipt is "registered counselor" vs. "guidance counselor". Needless to say, I will be encouraging my HR department to reconsider the use of Manulife in the future, this is a part of my compensation package and I am thoroughly unsatisfied.
My mother had group insurance with Manulife with death benefits. She started off on temporary sick benefits and then placed on a long-term. Unfortunately, my mother ended up passing away and I as her beneficiary went to apply for the payout and they told me she incurred it while alive. How can someone use up their death benefits while still alive? They won’t give me any more information either as I’m not the policyholder! What does someone do in this case has anyone experienced something like this before?
I was off with Short Term Disability with Manulife. They kept harassing me to go back to work. My Doctors and professionals went forward for me to have a long-term disability. I was not ready to go back to work. I have had two appeals as they denied me. I had my doctor, Psychiatrist and a therapy counsellor write for me to be off on LTD. Manulife's in-house Psychiatrist denied me without ever calling and talking to me. They denied it and made it sound false to three very highly recommended professionals. So they are forcing me to go back to work as I ended up on social assistant. On top of everything, I was still paying them $100 a month as I was told I had to, to keep the appeals open. This was a lie. I talked to several lawyers and they said if I'm going to get better there is nothing he can do. To sue I have to be off the rest of my life or it's not worth my time. The lawyer also stated that he has about 300 cases like mine and he's just one lawyer. I would have been better by now if I didn't have to struggle to keep my home not be homeless and concentrate on me and my health issues. Manulife will never get a dime off me again. On top of everything else their customer service is the worst I've ever seen, they really do treat you like your a criminal. The phone system hangs up on you while waiting. Please be cautious dealing with this criminal company.
Worst service ever! Recently switched to Manulife and they deny claims for no reason, impossible to contact on the phone.

This company is so bad at processing your group benefits claims. Sometimes just reject your claims with simple reason "your plan does not cover this service", but actually this service is covered under my plan, and I couldn't see any reason that they can make this mistake except they just don't want to reimburse you, and sometimes the claim amount is even in hundreds or thousands. This kind of behavior is worse than robbery or stealing, as they can easily get off without any penalties.
Employers or individuals who are looking for benefit insurance, keep away from this company.
