I always knew that I could get cheaper coverage but tenant insurance is not very expensive.
I just got a renewal notice with an increase for the addition of "overland water damage". I called and spoke to an agent who put me on mute and came back to tell me it is for sewage backup based on revised land surveys.
Well... I live on the 18th floor of a highrise in downtown Edmonton. That would be one hell of a backup. As for flooding? This is the highest altitude in the city.
If they want to raise rates that's their option. Adding useless coverage is an insulting method to achieve it.
Had a great experience when I effortlessly signed up online. 1 year later, they increased my rate by 40% for no good reason, no claims or anything along those lines. When I called up, they were unable to justify the change. Buyers beware, the first year may look attractive, but they will increase things for no reason the following year. Others have experienced the same thing.
They will give you a cheap price for the first year to lure you in, and as soon as your renewal is up Bammm, %200+ premium increase with no claims valid reason. The company simply doesn't care about customers if you don't mind changing insurance in a year
I say use this company for a year, and dump them like your garbage before your renewal is up, and be aware of the automatic renewal policy these scammers have.
Please don't be fooled by the first year quote you get. My home insurance went up from $900 to $3600 in the second year. Had difficulty cancelling. DO NOT BE FOOLED
I have been with them for more than 2 years. No claim, always paid on time. Then out of nowhere and not backed by data they decide to increase their pricing by 110% and 75% respectively for two home policies I had with them. Support proposes me to remove the earthquake insurance which would reduce 100$ / year which would still make for a 95% increase. Support could not find data to support the drastic increase other than saying "we recently adjusted or pricing chart". I can't believe it's legal to increase pricing from 46.16/mo to 97.33/mo without valid reasons for a client without claims. This is a 110% increase!!! Avoid this company at all costs. Not worth the time. You can find better pricing with any other company.
Changed carriers after 25 years because Sonnet was cheaper. That lasted for 2 years then year 3 - 70% increase! From $800 to $1400 and no claims, ever. Really, annoying was no notice it was going up that much. Just quietly charged to the card and it was a few days till I noticed and cancelled so they ripped me off for $20. Sonnet claims price went up because of claims, your neighborhood and some other things but went back to the previous carrier with only a marginal increase over last year's Sonnet price. They may start off cheap but no good for the long term and not worth the hassle of switching from a long term relationship with a previous carrier...
I took out a home insurance policy in July of 2019. I was very pleased with my quote. It was the best quote from the 3 places I searched for. I just received my renewal. It went from 74.37 a month to 222.33!!! That's triple the amount. They give you good rates the first year but watch out. I am not renewing. It's unbelievable and I am not sure how they can get away with this. The is criminal in my opinion
I transferred my property policy to Sonnet in 2017.
Prior to switching to Sonnet, I had continuous policy in 2013 - 2017 and * No claims *
After signing with Sonnet my policy premium started to increase as follow:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
2017: $730 annually ($60.83/mo). * No Claims * 1st year with Sonnet
2018: $829 annually ($69.08/mo). * No Claims * 14% Premium Increase.
2019: $1,003 annually ($69.08/mo). * No Claims * 21% Premium Increase.
2021: $1,379 annually ($114.92/mo). * No Claims * 37% Premium Increase.
2022: $1,543 annually ($128.58/mo). * No Claims * 21% Premium Increase.
Dear Sonnet,
This is to let you know that I have obtained the new property policy from a company that I was insured with prior to switching to you. My new premium will be within 3% of the rates offered to me back in 2017. As it is fairly obvious I will not be renewing the property policy with Sonnet.
I wish your corporate house of cards crumbles fast and loud!
Sincerely,
Your Former Client
Calgary, AB
P.S. Please do not respond with your usual "There were many claims in your area", as nobody believes your lies any longer.
