We had a burst water main pipe inside our home you could hear it gushing on our bedroom wall. After chasing RSA for weeks they finally sent some cowboys to stop the leak after 12 weeks, yes 12 weeks it must have cost me a fortune in calls etc. Then one of their contractors decided to steal one of the legs from my dishwasher TEA response "it's your word against his", so they let thieves work for them. I would advise anyone to avoid using this company as it's not the first time they've done this to us, even having a cowboy team repair our car that was damaged in a bit and run. Absolute garbage company.
RSA are rubbish to deal with when you have a claim. Quick to take the premiums. Very negative experience when dealing with them on a fairly minor claim. Too many negatives to list here. Sufficient to say NEVER AGAIN WITH RSA
Canadians pay, on average, approximately $20 per month in tenants insurance. Do you rent or plan to rent a property and want to reduce insurance costs? We will help you get a cheap tenant insurance quote today.
Not impressed at all!! Set up car insurance (or so I thought) on Thurs. for possession of car on Sat. As required, VIN was emailed Thurs. pm upon return from a car dealer. On Fri. accepted policy was "withdrawn" and another one at almost $15 more a month was offered. Accepted and again "withdrawn" for another policy yet another $23 more a month - $37 a month more than offered/accepted yesterday. And single month payment went to double payment. Conversation with a broker just after 4 pm and she was going to transfer the account to a colleague to try and do better. It's now 6:30 pm Friday evening, I take possession of my new car tomorrow and I have no policy with RSA because I haven't heard from them. I hope they are enjoying their weekend. Thanks for nothing and leaving me screwed with a new car I can't get because I have no insurance and everything is now closed for the long weekend. What the hell are you doing selling insurance if you don't know what you're doing? You can't screw with people that way. Well, apparently you can because they did.
Been with RSA for over one decade and one small auto claim. Premiums kept creeping up and up and realized they were out of touch with market. Could have saved over 20% on last renewal. Broker convinced me to stay as I'll have a long history with them if I ever have a claim. So this year I had one water claim after a huge storm, I had their very expensive rider on policy so figured everything would be OK. They fought for every last dollar and cent-- very poor...When you have the chance...move on (wish I had - won't make that mistsake again...)
Home was vacant as I moved for work and the house is still on the market, this was communicated to RSA, and the home was inspected every 72hrs by a professional service as per RSA's own guidelines, answered all their underwriters question and still the only communication was a registered letter with one paragraph stating it will be cancelled 15 days after the post office recieved it, great for someone away weeks at a time for work! Also no explanation why. just "underwriter reasons". I've been with them for over a decade and never had a claim or late payment.
I used to have tenants/auto/home with RSA, never ever again!
They don't put anything in writing. They change their minds with the wind. Nothing is as it appears at first. Never believe anything they say and record everything they say by emails but it won't help as they will just deny it. Eventually you will have to report them to the ombudsman..
We had some major ice damage to our home in the storm of 2009.
First of all the work done by RSA's contractor, Belfor Restoration was incomplete and of poor workmanship.
Some examples: The destroyed gutter on one wall was replaced with only 1 downspout at one end instead of the original 2 (one at each end, the explanation being that 1 is sufficient for the length of our gutter. The result was that all the rainwater went into the yard instead of into a ditch where it could drain away.
In replacing the destroyed retaining wall behind the house, the work was done by a sub-contractor who did not follow building code: result was after 3 years of battling and engineer finally made the changes to bring the wall up to code, but the drainage still did not go into the original ditch. Instead it now went under the house, resulting in mould. The construction company simply put a fan under the house to dry out the mould, but did not do anything to redirect the water from the wall into its original ditch, instead directed the water from behind the wall into our yard, creating a swamp.
Now we have a permanent moisture problem in our basement, which was originally bone dry. This problem is still not resolved after 5 years!
The original drainage ditch has been destroyed, filled with refuse, causing moisture and drainage problems and shrinking the size of our original parking area.
Furthermore, the contractor dumped his refuse and cement into our garden -hoping it would be hidden by the plants on our steep hill. It is still there.....

The restoration co. Sent to clean up caused more damage than the flood. It’s a trickle down payout that everyone gets a ‘piece of the action’.
We refused their blanket write offs - therefore you don’t get full replacement $ coverage.
We refused their chosen contractor therefore you don’t get the full dollar amount.
It’s a scam. Only use insurance if you absolutely must!!!
