I had 2 car insurance policies with them for many years (7 years). Next month one of my vehicle's insurance is up for insurance, I haven't got the renewal package as of yet, so I called in asking if they sent out the renewal package. At first, I was told that the renewal package was sent 2 months ago, then, I was told that I wasn't eligible for Multi-Vehicle Discount! When asked why I was told that my other car insurance was cancelled because I had 3 minor infractions over the past 3 years! That was surprising to me! I was also told that the cancellation happened 4 months ago and they sent out a registered mail - which I didn't receive - and they even that claimed my first vehicle - the one that is up for renewal - can't be insured because of the infractions!
I have, soon to be 'had' home and auto insurance with RBC - Aviva Insurance for well over 15 years. In order to jack up their rates, they'll terminate your policy for a made up reason and then re-quote you as a new customer without the long-standing good credit customer 'discounts'. To terminate my existing insurance they sent a letter with a blank form via regular mail to be completed with all my personal information with instructions to send it back by regular mail no later than September 15th. The letter is dated August 13th during prime vacation season when people are away. I received it and called them immediately the next day on September 5th to confirm if this was not a fraudulent request, they validated that it was true. During that same call, I asked if I could complete it online or email it because it contains a lot of personal information. They said no, only new customers can use the online service that I just need to complete it and mail it. I completed the form and put it in the mail that same day, September 5th. With 10 days to go, I didn't think much of it. Today, I received a registered letter that because the form was received by them September 18 they will cancel my insurance when this current policy expires. I can't speak to or guarantee Canada Post and their timelines of delivery. But this is how Aviva chooses to operate in order to terminate your insurance. There is nothing incomplete in the form... it is just 3 days late. And my policy expires in over a month, so there really is no issue. In the same breath they then offer to sign you up as a new customer ...over the phone/online with all that same personal information with a much higher premium. What's most frustrating is that customer service will admit that they see on my file that I called on September 5th and confirm that the context of my call was to validate the form and if I could email or complete it on line. I'm sure all carriers have their issues, but this is simply pure fraud to jack up their premiums/income. The service representatives on the line were sympathetic, they know they can't do anything about it... they're just doing their job.
Would give less than 1 if possible. Must be said that AVIVA/RBC are the same. Have had nothing but nightmares dealing with adjusters (Never call back or answer emails, send incorrect info, etc). We lost our cars due to a tornado and took 4 months to get things resolved. But the latest just kicks the bucket. My daughters insurance (perfect driving record, no claims) went up 48% because they decided to remove the typical discounts that are available everywhere else such as Student discount, multi-vehicle discount, web quote discount, winter tire discount. We have been with them for almost 12 years. Will be moving to another company (4 cars, 3 houses). Unbelievable how this company does not care about its clients.
Student unions/Associations- tell all your colleagues about the disappearance of the student discount Aviva. It will be a real shock to your system & definitely to your cash flow.
Had a 5,000 claim in 2015, in 2017 Aviva partnered with RBC as the underwriter and then they cancelled my insurance 1 month before my renewal!!! RBC said AVIVA sent me a re-application via snail mail (which I never received). Because I didn't "reapply within 2 weeks, they sent a "registered" letter informing me my policy is cancelled and they no longer want me as a customer. AFTER 15 years of being a customer, never missing a payment! No changes in my vehicles or driver rating. (They actually said they would NOT cancel my House insurance! LOL). BEWARE, Aviva now RUNS RBC insurance and the complaints line I called said they are targeting longtime customers and snuffing them out as most have a declining deductible clause (my $500 deductible was at $0 because of my 15 years of "Loyalty"), haha. They ACTUALLY said I qualify for the exact same coverage after the RBC agent issued me a quote and I would have NO lapse in coverage, HOWEVER, there would be $150 rate hike and I would lose all accrued loyalty benefits such as my declining deductible, which was at $0, so re-set to $500. RBC's bait and switch predatory practices are despicable, I don't believe they ever mailed me any re-application/renewal forms and obviously by not emailing me or calling me to notify me about pending policy cancelation (they had my email and home phone number on file for years) they obviously targeted me and are looking to get rid of long-term customers. The RBC insurance Rep apologized for AVIVA's unscrupulous corporate tactics as this is new to RBC, she sounded embarrassed after admitting she is getting multiple calls from longtime customers with similar complaints. Note RBC does not target new customers, within the last 2 years, rather longtime loyal customers they want to get rid of. Good luck RBC, I'm lodging a complaint with the Ontario Insurance Ombudsman and notifying my Union, my workplace as well as my friends and family to steer clear of RBC! AVOID the renewal cancellation hassle by RBC auto insurance.
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
Had a heck of a time dealing with this company. With their lack of response and them trying to rip me off on my car that was a write-off! The accident wasn't even my fault! They then low balled me even though I had coverage to replace my car and of course I had to fight it. The accident happened on December 1st and the claim didn't even get settled until January 19th! This was only because I was so sick and tired of dealing with Jacques. I had included his manager in the emails, and she was unresponsive as well. Until I got my lawyer involved and as soon as they sent the email, low and behold, Aviva responds within 3 minutes! Eventually, they even became unresponsive to my lawyers' emails and phone calls. They would call at odd hours knowing my lawyer wouldn't be able to pick up! Then once I got my lawyer involved they refused to even talk to me about my claim! Ridiculous! I call them, wait on hold and leave messages to no answer. They are willing to take all your money but when it comes to paying out they are unwilling. They got a "deal" from the dealership but the dealership said we only give that deal if this is a cash payment of the vehicle. Customers don't get the discounts if they go on finance. So again I paid 36k and when they said full replacement they don't really mean it. The adjuster said he needed the MSRP, etc etc. and when he wasn't able to get information from the dealership because they didn't have it. It went silent. I got the MSRP price of my vehicle and yet they gave me a lower settlement. If he wasn't going to change his mind on the payout why make me jump through hoops to get the information for him? I had the no depreciation endorsement. So, in the end, I am at a 10K loss. So the year I have been paying into my last car was a waste. Terrible customer service! I even contacted the ombudsman and that is a total joke as well. They tell me on my insurance that if I am not happy with how things were handled I can get my premium back, but when I emailed them they told me since I have my lawyer involved they need to deal with my lawyer or have my lawyer tell them they aren't dealing with it anymore. My boyfriend also sustained injuries and when I talked to my adjuster, he said the healthcare team will be in contact. 2 weeks after accident still no answer. So I called them again. First they said oh I will put a note in for someone to call. When I called back they said oh someone clicked off not to call your boyfriend. Well, wouldn't they have seen that in the first place?! My boyfriend is still in a lot of pain from the accident that happened Dec 1st! We have gotten a lawyer to deal with this and it is ridiculous. I wonder if there are any companies out there that treat their customers better? and not to lie to them!?
I am a 28 year old female who got my g2 license about 3 years ago. Because my family members are insured with Aviva, I got a multi-vehicle discount which made Aviva the cheapest option for me.
The following year, my rate increased by about 10% which they said was due to an introductory discount that you get with them in your first year.
Fine. The year after that, it went up another 13% despite having no accidents or claims. When I called to inquire, they had no explanation.
I found a better rate with Meloche Monnex which has no first year discounts so I know that this is a true base rate. My broker at Aviva tried to talk me out of it by saying that Aviva works through brokers which makes the service more personalized whereas Meloche Monnex works through the corporate office. In my experiences, I have had a much more difficult time contacting Aviva whose brokers seem to have a very lax attitude towards responding to their voicemails. I am put into contact with someone right away when I contact Meloche Monnex.
I am happy with the switch. Beware of rate increases with Aviva.
I have both my auto and property insurance with Aviva and now with the pandemic, I started looking around for better rates. Doing my research I found better coverage for both policies and for much cheaper, saving approx. $1000 per year. Therefore calling to cancel mid-term my policies with Aviva I am told that Aviva's short-term calculator indicates a 22% charge when my understanding from other mortgage brokers that the industry standard is 8-10%max. I want people to beware of these outstanding charges and think twice before joining Aviva. Do your research as there is way better out there. The best part of it all is that we were told we are getting a firefighter discount as well but how can that be when we are overpaying If I could give 0 stars rating I would.
