What your policy says is not what it means!!! My policy says outside structures insured for 39000.00 which appears to be fine, NO! That is not so simple. I recently had 32000.00 in outside damages and you would think that it would be great. No way! They say I should have been insured for 109000.00 for outbuilding coverage. Their formula works out to be 10000.00 worth of coverage. But because they are a wonderful company they will go as high as 20000.00 take it or leave it. So, read by your lawyer because their policies are terrible!!!
I was honestly paying insurance fees for them for about 20 years. I had two floodings both were not my fault. The first deductible was $500, the second one already 5000. When I renewed policy the broker did NOT even mention such a drastic increase of deductible. It was done in very cunning and mean. As a result, I have to pay from my pocket $5000 to fix the damage. Do you need such a "wonderful" insurance company?
Canadians pay, on average, approximately $20 per month in tenants insurance. Do you rent or plan to rent a property and want to reduce insurance costs? We will help you get a cheap tenant insurance quote today.
We had home insurance for one year, and although we thought the cost was expensive we decided to renew for the following year. We paid for the year in full. Approx. 4 months later they contacted us and asked for an additional $400. We were very upset because the cost was already really high, and we had paid for the year in full. Finally, after a lot of arguing back and forth, we agreed to pay an additional $200. Year 3, we found a new insurer, same coverage, $1000 less. We sent an email letting them know we will not be renewing and we have coverage elsewhere. They insisted that we attend the office and sign paperwork to cancel. They called repeatedly. This harassment continued for several weeks. Yet, someone we knew forgot to renew and they cancelled his insurance promptly. To us, they kept insisting that by law, unless we sign specific papers, they cannot cancel the insurance coverage.
I was dealing with Westland Insurance out of Ucluelet for the last couple of years. I had 2 cabins insured with them. At the end of the vacation rental season in the fall, I asked to have the 1 cabin that was insured for 1 vacation rental changed to the same policy as my other 1 which was for personal use. I had to call their main office approx. 5 times. Waited and waited for a response from Will and Carly. Finally, after a week of me calling them and calling them, I find out from Carly that the policy that I wanted to change the rental unit to the personal use 1 that they had sold me, she now says wasn't even valid. If I would have had a claim, she tells me that I wouldn't have even been covered. I had paid for both policies upfront. I then phone back and ask to speak to Will who tells me, oh, ya, if anything would have happened, we would have covered you... Come on??? Do you really think people are that stupid??? Lies, lies, lies! I am 44 years old and have owned properties since I was 20. Dealt with many insurance companies over the years. This was by far the worst possible service and not to mention, got thoroughly RIPPED OFF.
This year I shopped around. Got comparable homeowners coverage from Squamish Agency for 2/3 what Westland Pemberton was charging and I don't have to deal with the arrogant attitude. Win Win for me.
I have insured my business through westland insurance and recently found out that they have been overcharging me over 10,000 per year!! The manager Ross is extremely ignorant and basically told me I approved all the coverages. I am not an insurance expert, I rely on my broker to work in my best interest. They should have come up with a proper solution for my business at a fair price. After my dispute with Ross, they illegally cancelled my policy for non-payment. I have a full time book keeper that has never been late on any payments. She had informed me that no invoice was sent. I called in to Westland and another ignorant woman said that Ross had told her we were eventually going to cancel the policy, so do not send in an invoice. UNBELEIVABLE!!! I am so mad with this company, and am doing everything in my power to inform and educate people on what poor of a company Westland insurance is. I am NOT promoting any other business, just expressing my dealings with this awfully run business.
I experienced a break-in and vandalism in 2015, and was told I am not insured under my homeowner's insurance policy that I had been paying since 1991. The culprits were found and they were 12 and 13 year olds and still the insurance company denied my claim I have suffered a loss about $40,000 to the property as well as personal items being destroyed. I am a landlord and Westland Insurance holds all my policies that I am now in the process of moving. I have never had such a difficult experience when I've never made a claim in my life since I've owned all these properties. Not to mention my insurance rates keep going up and up! I am completely dissatisfied and will be spreading the news to all my landlord friends this is a small town. I will also go to social media with this!
After being with them for a few years claims free with multi policies, without any notice they made changes. I was given a letter stating a list of new exclusions one week before my insurance was due for renewal. It also stated I was expected to get a new hot water tank within a year ( mine is in excellent condition) . Although some of the staff are very nice, Maggie L. the branch manager at Evergreen Mall is very rude
Of course, you pay them monthly feeling like you are covered but trust me you are not. I feel grossly mislead by this company. I am a professional organizer and was sold insurance under the pretense that they would cover an event where accidental donate takes place. I confirmed this verbally with the underwriter and I have a record of her asking me questions about it:
to me
Hi Jaclynn,
Sorry, the underwriter has more questions now:
-Who decides which items to dispose of?
-How does the insured know not to dispose of certain items?
-What if the insured disposed of something by accident?
Or course years later accidentally donation occurs and they won't even pay out a small $3000 claim. I am absolutely disgusted that I have paid this company for years.
