I have insured my business through westland insurance and recently found out that they have been overcharging me over 10,000 per year!! The manager Ross is extremely ignorant and basically told me I approved all the coverages. I am not an insurance expert, I rely on my broker to work in my best interest. They should have come up with a proper solution for my business at a fair price. After my dispute with Ross, they illegally cancelled my policy for non-payment. I have a full time book keeper that has never been late on any payments. She had informed me that no invoice was sent. I called in to Westland and another ignorant woman said that Ross had told her we were eventually going to cancel the policy, so do not send in an invoice. UNBELEIVABLE!!! I am so mad with this company, and am doing everything in my power to inform and educate people on what poor of a company Westland insurance is. I am NOT promoting any other business, just expressing my dealings with this awfully run business.
I experienced a break-in and vandalism in 2015, and was told I am not insured under my homeowner's insurance policy that I had been paying since 1991. The culprits were found and they were 12 and 13 year olds and still the insurance company denied my claim I have suffered a loss about $40,000 to the property as well as personal items being destroyed. I am a landlord and Westland Insurance holds all my policies that I am now in the process of moving. I have never had such a difficult experience when I've never made a claim in my life since I've owned all these properties. Not to mention my insurance rates keep going up and up! I am completely dissatisfied and will be spreading the news to all my landlord friends this is a small town. I will also go to social media with this!
I was happy with Westland in the past. I joined them again 2 yrs ago. I was never aware of any penalty for cancelling with the policy year. I usually pay annually, but since my condo was on the market - I chose to go monthly payments. The condo will be transferred in April this year - but was sold in Jan. I spoke to a rep in Jan before the renewal - about the ending of my policy in April. He said that was fine and to still fill in a release doc. No one brought to my attention cancellation within the year following renewal. I assumed it was month to month - as I had a sale for my condo. Very disappointed to pay any amount - as I was not aware of this situation and thought that only a months notice is needed as for all other services.
Having been a claim free customer with multiple policies I have been treated very poorly over the years, demanding personnel with very little qualm about increase rates without any conversation or options. My confidence in them and their underwriters is extremely low and would not recommend them.

recently after 15 years of using Westland, I decided to get a new quote for home insurance, I called a couple of other competitors and their quotes for "apples to apples" was significantly lower than Westland. I called Westland whom I have been a loyal customer with for 15 years in the Vancouver BC area and they told me they can't touch the two lower quotes and I should go with the other Insurance agencies. I had 1 claim in 15 years and they treated me well but apparently, loyalty means nothing. I am saving almost $1000 per year with the new company. Good bye Westland
