Wawanesa has kept us waiting over 2 years to settle our claim. We were never told what would be covered and what would not. We are not getting the single limit replacement cost on the damage. Refusing to cover lots and reinstalling things damaged. Amazing contractor trying to work for us. Terrible customer service from adjuster and Wawanesa. We are not getting the coverage that we should be getting. Our home will never be worth what it was before the loss. I do not recommend Wawanesa or Coast Claims adjuster. Very sad. I recommend purchase home insurance with a different company.
We are still fighting over a sewer backup claim after 2 years. We were a customer for over 4o years with this company, and we are treated like we wanted this to happen. We were out of town when it happened, when we got home our basement was destroyed by the restoration company, many items unaccounted for with no explanation from the cleaning company where these items are, yet we have had to sue them and are still in the process of trying to settle this fiasco. They would rather pay their lawyers than do the right thing for a client. They are worth millions in assets and they want to keep it that way. Stay away from Wawanesa, read your policy carefully every year and be careful who your broker is. In our case, we had a broker who did not review our policy with us on renewal and did not advise that because of the flood in High River, all our coverage would change without them advising us of these changes. They want high premiums every year but when it comes to paying out any money for a claim that is a different story. We have had to spend thousands in trying to restore our basement out of our own pocket, as well as legal fees to fight these terrible companies.
Dealt with these guys for years, better off having no insurance than paying these guys for nothing. Cheaper insurance but you get what you pay for - absolutely nothing. They have their own adjusters who get paid extra if they rule in their favour. Hired my own adjuster but still ignored his claim, said "we have our own", of course.
Long story short. My Neighbour had a flood and damaged my property (condo). Wawanesa adjustor (Christina M) gave my neighbour and me all kind of nonsense and refused to pay. I had to spend a year and hundreds $ to sue my neighbour. In the end, Wawanesa had to follow the order to pay me and honour their policy. So much had for me because the company and adjuster would not do the right thing at the beginning.
The adjuster is inexperienced. The people they send to the property seem to be elderly individuals that are a bit confused and they will try to deny any and every claim which comes to them. I had wind damage on my front gate. The elderly man they sent out to look at the gate says in an email to the adjuster that he checked wind speeds with Environment Canada on June 3, 2015 and there was not high winds but the problem is my gate broke on May 2, 2015 and the claim was made on May 3, 2015. The adjuster is so terrible that she didn't question this error in the report but agreed to it. Shows you how much they are looking out for their clients or how thoroughly they read and check their reports. The manager is further careless, calls us in to meet but goes out for coffee instead of meeting us. What a joke! Never use Wawanesa! They are terrible. If your broker says Wawanesa, stay away!!! Using Wawanesa would be equivalent to not having any insurance.
I have used wawanesa insurance for my house and auto over 10 years . It had hail in Calgary NW in 2012. All my neighhoors including my house had hail damage seriously, Wawanesa tried to deny the coverage of hail damage , even though they can't avoid it , Wawanesa tried to miss hail damage items , less quantity of hail damage as well as try to use cheap/poor job. It spend me over 1 years ( emails and callers thundreds times)
1) Roof : Wawanesa said not hail damage in my shake roof , then send me one independant inspection report done by one personal service style firm to approve his point , I have to hire one big/stnadard roof indpendent inspector to double check it . It has seriously damage . then Wawanesa just paid $3000 for replace entire roof .
2) Siding and around : Wawanesa hired one personal service style estimation firm to estimate the cost, over 40% hail damage items missed at the first. Even though hail damage items in the estimation reports , the quantity is not enough . such as hail damaged length of fascia is 160 ft , the estimator said is 80 ft . the estimator tried to paint my hail damaged wall clopped at cost of $51 which other constructor asked for $545. What important Wawanesa tried to hire one constructor to this job at unbelievable price , We can image how cheap and poor job will be done . They asked me to wait at home review and they didn't come , I called and emailed an adjuster a lot of times , they didn't response.
In the word , Wawanesa just collects money and woudn't like to be responsible as they promised , Wawanesa manpulates from dependent inspection , estimation to constructor .I don't know why government allow them to do this style business in Canada.

My small home Wawanesa home insurance was $890 which was paid upfront for the whole year. The agreement made 1 year ago. From December to December period. Their broker sent me a reminder indicating the due date to pay January 6. I realized on January 7 when got home from work and I shot Email to the broker asking if I can pay the next day at lunchtime. The reply was: my insurance expired! Now I have to work out new agreements and pay higher fees. So higher fees are $1300 a year. I find this a big jump in price. So I will go back on market to find another broker. However, regardless of what I choose now, I will be on the hook to pay Wawanessa the time house, not on any insurance estimated about $75-$100. In my opinion, if a house cannot be without insurance then one should be on a bill payment when late a 30 days normal service provision then interest. Something internet providers would do. Instead, Wawanesa chooses to not accept bill payments and cancel the insurance and then rack up fees. Bad business. These underwater stones should have been discussed by the broker because I gave a call to another broker today and he said usually they give 30 days. I emailed Wawanessa directly describing the situation they chose not to reply.
