These guys have terrible and inefficient customer service. They lie to you and tell you something will only take a couple minutes that stretches into the range of an hour or more. They don't have their act together to actually just process your file, but put you on hold constantly while they try and figure out what they are supposed to be doing. They don't follow your request to communicate by email, and despite keeping you on the phone for an hour, they fail to disclose all of the charges that you are liable for but because you've entered a policy, they treat it as an open right to generate charges they failed to disclose. They have no respect when you tell them that they can't call you on your phone during the day because of your occupation. I am a teacher and I had to block their phone number because I can't be taking phone calls while I'm teaching, and then they refused to email me to ask me what they needed and then just started filing charges of $50 every two months, and no email explanation of the charges. They send it through as an adjustment on the statement which really isn't explaining that they intend to charge you an extra $50 every two months over and above the insurance you are already paying for. They are a make work institution that can't be trusted.
I had applied online and then called TD Insurance (Meloche Monnex) immediately. My online quote was $1,150. The representative on the phone gave me a quote of $1,577. I told him the difference was too great. He agreed to let me apply online again while we were on the phone. We used the same criteria on the quotation. The result was $1,150. He asked me to wait for 5 minutes and then said that the best he could do was $1,517. I got another insurance company quote (same terms) for $940.
Canadians pay, on average, approximately $20 per month in tenants insurance. Do you rent or plan to rent a property and want to reduce insurance costs? We will help you get a cheap tenant insurance quote today.
we have been with TD Meloche Monnex for many years. we have always had and paid for a comprehensive solution. in the last 5 years premiums have just been rising and they cannot provide any good reasons. some B.S. about being in a high risk zone for sewer backup was one they are trying to get past us. coverage for that has gone from 100,000 to $15,000, while the premium for it has increased 460% in the past 5 years. Rip off artists!!!!!
every year I call and ask why we are being penalized. we have already increased deductibles.
Service is good when you need them, but we cannot continue to allow them to take advantage of us.
I recently reviewed the insurance on 3 properties and they all have increased on average 15% per year over the last 5 years. This increase is not in line with inflation and when questioned I am given the same response that they made a calculating error in their policies causing an disproportionate increase in claims. Furthermore my coverage is decreasing and limits are being set which no longer provide adequate insurance. My sewer backup limit has dropped to $15K from $61K and my premium for this coverage increased $12. Being familiar with the cost of claims I am well aware that $15K will likely only cover the cost of tearing a basement apart and drying it up but leave nothing for restoration or contents. I called to ask why my policy was amended and now under-insured and was told that all policies are now capped at $15K for sewer backup unless I purchase additional insurance. All 3 properties are rated by TDMM as a category 3 risk for sewer backup however the cost to increase coverage from 15K to 50K varies from $35 - $78 per year. They could not answer why the cost for the additional $35K of coverage would vary for properties in the same city, geographical region and risk group.
They also informed me it is my responsibility to know my insurance needs and they can change rates and coverage at any time.
In short I no longer trust TDMM as they are not looking out for me and helping me manage my risk but only care about their risk and their bottom line. If you are not an insurance expert I would stay away from TDMM as their policies are not designed to help you in your time of need.
BTW 10 years insured and never a claim.
Very comparable to other products on the market.
After calling them (talked to 5 diff people) and asking why our premium has gone up so much in the last few years we were offered to check into our distance from the local firehall. We were told that if we were under 8km we could see a reduction in our rate. After getting the information and finding out we were less than 3km were then told it has to be the first responder in a call and we must prove that. Seems like every time we meet there demands we are given another road block. Got two other quotes both were considerably less. I guess paying (overpaying it seems!) for over 29 years- means nothing to this company. We will be cancelling our house and car insurance after this treatment.
