Convenient but expensive

I got this insurance for my condo because it was easy to get online without calling anybody. The price was ok as well. A few days ago I got a notification about renewal cooking up and my rate increased significantly - it will be almost $70/month for a condo insurance policy. Other providers offer condo insurance for a half of that. Not happy with new rates and will change.
Low premiums and good coverage, but technical problems make the whole experience too frustrating. I have tried Chrome and Edge browsers as well as Incognito mode on both, clearing cookies and cache. When I am finally able to connect to chat support, all they can do is promise that their IT support will get back to me, which never happens. A terrible business plan. Avoid this company.
No grace period for cancellation for ‘’non-payment” during COVID-19.
My credit card was replaced and before I had a chance to update the profile with the new info my policy had been cancelled.
Now I have been blacklisted and can’t receive insurance on my home from other Insurers.
I have been with them for more than 2 years. No claim, always paid on time. Then out of nowhere and not backed by data they decide to increase their pricing by 110% and 75% respectively for two home policies I had with them. Support proposes me to remove the earthquake insurance which would reduce 100$ / year which would still make for a 95% increase. Support could not find data to support the drastic increase other than saying "we recently adjusted or pricing chart". I can't believe it's legal to increase pricing from 46.16/mo to 97.33/mo without valid reasons for a client without claims. This is a 110% increase!!! Avoid this company at all costs. Not worth the time. You can find better pricing with any other company.
Changed carriers after 25 years because Sonnet was cheaper. That lasted for 2 years then year 3 - 70% increase! From $800 to $1400 and no claims, ever. Really, annoying was no notice it was going up that much. Just quietly charged to the card and it was a few days till I noticed and cancelled so they ripped me off for $20. Sonnet claims price went up because of claims, your neighborhood and some other things but went back to the previous carrier with only a marginal increase over last year's Sonnet price. They may start off cheap but no good for the long term and not worth the hassle of switching from a long term relationship with a previous carrier...
I was sent to collections with no notification that I even owed them any money. I’ve been in the house with my newborn baby since COVID-19 has started and I haven’t missed a call text or message during all that time and today received a phone call from a collection agency stating that I owe them money from March. It is now June. I am confused and wondering why I paid double for the first month of it doesn’t cover my last.... and why was I not called, emailed or mailed any notification? Not good service at all!!!
I took out a home insurance policy in July of 2019. I was very pleased with my quote. It was the best quote from the 3 places I searched for. I just received my renewal. It went from 74.37 a month to 222.33!!! That's triple the amount. They give you good rates the first year but watch out. I am not renewing. It's unbelievable and I am not sure how they can get away with this. The is criminal in my opinion
I don't know if they easily pay in case of sinistre, but they send very easily recall to pay even when it's already paid. So, some people can pay twice and maybe never see the mistake. Another trick to increase ther business.
Canadians pay, on average, approximately $20 per month in tenants insurance. Do you rent or plan to rent a property and want to reduce insurance costs? We will help you get a cheap tenant insurance quote today.
Great rate the first year, then a 40% increase, then another 40% increase. One claim in this time, though they said that per their policy, the first claim did not affect my premium. That said, they can't tell me what has caused this increase other than "general changes in insurance liability globally." Went with them because of their online nature and yet half the time their website is borked or I can't log-in and on email, they tell me to call. Took three customer service agents to fix a very simple problem over email because the first two didn't bother reading my inquiry. The claim experience was with an agent that couldn't answer the question, kept calling me while I was travelling and I had said to email. Eventually bumped up the chain to a higher up who was helpful, but you have to go through layers of idiocy to get there. Do NOT recommend AT ALL. Avoid!

We had a condo insurance policy with Sonnet and the rate continued to increase year over year. This November we had to renew the policy and decided that paying $88/month for a 2-bedroom-condo is too much. So we found something much cheaper - finished going with Square One Insurance for $57/month for an identical policy.
I can not deny that Sonnet is very convenient as you can do everything online avoiding unnecessary calls but at the end it turned out to be too expensive, once we started comparing the prices. A good decision.
A bit of unpleasant experience - two days after cancelling our Sonnet policy (I cancelled before it was renewed for another year) I got an email from them saying that I owe them over $950 for the new policy - that did not make me happy. I called them the next day just to find out that it is an automatically generated email and, since I cancelled before the renewal, I do not owe them anything. But that is something that should not have happened. At least, the lady on the phone was very helpful and friendly and the phone waiting time was not long: 3-4 minutes.
