Shame on AMA Insurance!

I’ve been with ama for years and I wait for ever on call every time I want something
Just because of this I’m considering changing companies
Half hour wait to connect, asked me personal question and told my insurance rate changes due to being single, hung up when I asked questions why.
Customer sevice in insurence department is super bad, they dont see you unless you start to cry or line up reaches the exit door, and manager does not help at all... customers just need to know if they are seen and not ignored.
Please, Please go with another insurance Company. This Company was the most scummy Insurance company I have ever had and honestly if I could have afforded a lawyer to sue the crap out of them I would have. Insanely long story over the course of 5+ years but TLDR:
I had a loan for a $60,000 car and took it on and off parking insurance for the winter ( it was a nice car and I only drove it in the summer )
When you have a loan it is REQUIRED you have full insurance if you drive it.
Spring time I had requested them to put my car back on full insurance in person.
The person who assisted me made an error and gave me BASIC INSURANCE.
(I STILL TO THIS DAY DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW THAT IS POSSIBLE ON A CAR WITH A LOAN)
I obviously have an accident a short while after that (within the month) and I go to claim my insurance (cause I obviously thought I was on full insurance, they denied because I only had basic).
They stole MY documents with my signature on them when I went in person to talk to them about this to try and hide the evidence. They kicked me out and refused to give me my documents (WHICH HAD MY WRITING ON IT AND I HAD BROUGHT IN)
A short while later they Emailed the documents to me which were clearly crumpled up and thrown in the trash.
An absolute unbelievable experience dealing with them regardless of the outcome. To take documents that I BROUGHT IN and KICK ME OUT without giving me my stuff back is INSANE.
And to also not take the fault for messing up and giving me the wrong insurance is just insanity, I obviously was out all the money I put into the car, and also out all the money I paid for FULL INSURANCE UP UNTIL THAT POINT.
(Which I have proof of obviously)
I have brushed over a lot of other stuff that occurred but I HIGHLY suggest you look elsewhere for insurance. :)
I recently phoned AMA to let them know I wouldn’t be renewing my auto insurance. I did this because when I didn’t renew my home insurance I was plagued with email messages, phone calls, and letters about renewing my home insurance. I wanted to avoid that.
The representative kept saying I was cancelling my policy. I clarified that I was not cancelling it - I wanted it to continue until the policy’s end date in December.
This week I received a letter confirming that I asked them to ‘cancel’ my automobile policy. I would have ignored this except at the bottom of the letter it indicated they had CC’d the company that I have a loan with for my vehicle.
Why did they violate my privacy? Do they own shares in that finance company! Even so wouldn’t that be an inappropriate conflict of interest?
If they were concerned I was going to break the law by not having insurance, why write to a company that can’t enforce that law?
It seems to me this was a kind of juvenile petulant tactic to show their displeasure that I wasn’t renewing with them.
I had insurance with another company which took effect a day before my AMA policy expired before even advising them I was not going to renew with them. That really isn’t their business and I feel it’s a breach of my privacy. Not professional or appropriate.
If you like sitting on hold for literally hours this is the place for you. You listen to a automated message saying how great they are literally for hours on end half the time the options you have no matter what option you choose sends you on a loop where it just keeps asking same questions I’ve never despised a business more than AMA insurance terrible all around.
I’ve been with AMA for 2 years and after multiple gigantic price hikes I looked into switching and realized AMA charges over 3x more for even less coverage than ANYWHERE else. They also never take out payments on time so be aware they will access your bank whenever they feel like it. Also god forbid you have to make a claim or ask any questions because their workers don’t seem to know anything. Horrible company switching before the end of this month.
I have had AMA for 2 years and haven't provided the services I needed for those 2. I stuck with them in the hope they saw me as a loyal customer but they don't care. Only got my auto insurance lowered by a fractional amount, I have a clean record but say that insurance is getting more expensive. In total got my insurance lowered by 15$ for 2 years of ama. It's a company that wants you to crash.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
As a long-time AMA member, I visited Sunridge AMA today to pay my corporate annual return. After standing in line for almost exactly an hour the person two people behind me were moved ahead of everyone and served. How ridiculous is that? There were three people at separate windows however one was wandering around like a dodo bird and two were serving one customer. When I asked why the service was so terrible I was told that they were training a new employee. How does that become the customer's problem? Having been in management most of my life I really wanted to jump in and establish some professionalism and service in these employees. Whoever manages this location should be removed.
AMA if this is the best you can do you should be ashamed of yourself.
I will go to Willow Park from now on even though it is far from where I live.
You advertise service! Why don’t you deliver?
It must be either you are not equipped to, simply don’t care, or are just plain stupid!
This location is a disgrace to AMA.

DON'T BE FOOLED BY AMA INSURANCE!
I went in to get insurance on my 18 year old vehicle. My wife and I are senior citizens. We signed the paperwork presented to us, which included a statement about a $100 premium retention if we cancelled the policy within 30 days. We specifically asked the agent, before signing the paperwork what would happen if we sold the vehicle, and he clearly told us that there would be a $100 premium retention if we cancelled early. The quoted premium for 1 year was $2,267, which is fairly close to the value of the vehicle.
Less than 48 hours later, we found a national insurer who offered us exactly the same coverage for $450 for 1 year. So we went back in to the AMA office to cancel the policy (less than 48 hours of receiving it). The agent told us we would not only lose the $100 premium retention, but they would also be charging us a $100 penalty for early cancellation. This 'penalty' was not mentioned in any of the paperwork we signed, nor was it mentioned by the original issuing agent.
We spoke to a supervisor, but she didn't care. She just said we breached the contract and would have to suffer the penalty for it. She didn't care that we were long time members of AMA, and she didn't care that we are seniors on a fixed income. In the end, we had to leave without any satisfaction because it was clear that they were not going to do anything for us. Their ethical practice and behaviour in forcing us to accept a penalty that was not mentioned in any conversation or described in any contractual documentation for less than 48 hours is despicable. SHAME ON AMA INSURANCE!
