Pinned me on at fault accident

by Twiggyboo on Oct 24, 2024
1 out of 5 stars

I owned a Fiat 500. I had taken it to my mechanic to check the steering. I noticed a few days later there was damage on the rocker panels. I confronted my mechanic and of course he denied it. He lifted my car incorrectly. I put in a claim to have it repaired. It happened to me again at the dealer. I had my brakes done. I knew to check my rocker panels because of the first time this happened, and sure enough there was damage from the lift. They admitted it and fixed it at no cost. I went to shop around for a new insurance company because my rate kept going up. I find out they put me down as at fault accident on my record without informing me! I've been paying ridiculous rates for 8 years! It's all over the internet of instances of people having problems with their Fiat 500 being lifted wrong! I think I need a lawyer!

Terrible experience with claim

Exactly like Alex explained on Jan 2018 in one of the comments below. My agent never returned phone calls and was extremely absent-minded in a lot of the claim details. It was so bad that I asked to speak to his manager, who claimed everything done by him was normal. The estimator was also absent-minded when verifying my car. He knew I had a current model GTI and when meeting me in my parking area he proceeded to check out my neighbours Hyundai SUV. One of my good friends is a damn good car painter. He told me the proper repair to the door was to replace it since there was a crease in the door that would make any repair look like crap. What did the estimator want to do? He wanted to "pull and paint" my dent from my door. When I raised concerns that it would look like crap AND it was also a current model year car; he tried to make me believe that replacement doors didn't exist. 1 phone call to my local dealership confirmed that a warehouse full of spare panels were available from Toronto. Estimated time to get to Ottawa was usually 1-3 business days. Why did he lie? To save money of course. They still wanted to go through with the cheap repair until I threatened to sue for breach of contract. They started to listen right away. Of course, they also tried to force me to some chop shop "preferred shop" of theirs too. There's no way in hell I would do that since they are again trying to save even more money and my friend is a damn good painter at his shop. I brought it there and the repair was fabulous. Unfortunately, my friend wanted additional time to work on the tint of the paint for a 100% match because they saved the time of replacing the door instead of the repair but the appraiser said no. Again reinforcing the cheapness of the company. My friend did an excellent job matching the factory paint without any blemishes. I don't see a difference. I am told it's about 95% accurate though. Still, I am happy. I tried to make a complaint on the estimator but they said they "found he was doing his job". As for agent and manager... Well, you can see why they still got jobs. Because they spend as less money as possible.

Very Consistent Experience

by Smith on Feb 15, 2019
4.5 out of 5 stars

Firstly, I'd like to say that I read the previous reviews and I want to express heartfelt empathy for the experiences of others that have posted on this site about negative experiences. I've been with Travelers (Chieftain/Dominion) for approx 10 years. I've had 2 accidents (roughly 10 years apart), neither at fault, no tickets or any other claims. Both my home and auto policies are with them. I have accident forgiveness and my rates didn't increase as a result of the accidents. The claims process was honest and straightforward. My broker handled a lot of the details for me, and I was connected with agents from Travelers as needed. Rental cars were covered, repairs were done promptly and as expected. The one thing that was negative on the repairs to my car is that due to the age of my car (4 years old at the time), I couldn't get a new OEM part covered. I had to go aftermarket for the bumper I needed or else have the shop buff/repair the existing bumper. Minor thing, I just wasn't aware of it and surprises aren't fun during these processes. Not a huge deal. Overall, I didn't get run-around from the company during a claim.

Auto Insurance Claim

by Liza on Dec 7, 2017
1 out of 5 stars

I had someone rear end me back on Oct 27 and called up the insurance company the very same day to report the claim (travelers Canada, Oakville Office). A day later I got a call from the adjuster (Jason) who went through the details of the claim with me and recommended that I use a body shop associated with the company. I also had the option of going to a body shop of my choice but I was told that there will not be any guarantee of the work if I did. So I decided to go with Carstar. That was my first mistake. The employee at Carstar did not know what I was there for inspite of the adjuster sending him the file. I waited for a half hour even after having an appointment. I went over the damages to the car and he seemed completely disinterested without making any notes. I told him the "check engine light" was on after the accident and, did not want the car to stall for any reason while I am driving and (the car is almost 15 year old) so there may be some hidden damages which he acknowledged but let me drive out of the lot saying the car was safe to drive.
There was no followup from the adjuster for over a week. I was driving the car that in my opinion was unsafe. I left messages and no response. Once my broker got involved I got a email from Jason saying that he was following up with the body shop and hadn't hear back from them. This is over a week later. The broker sent him an email requesting that I get a rental because the car was clearly unsafe to drive which was only approved after almost 10 days. I get another call from the body shop (Carstar) asking me to come back at the end of Nov because they could provide insurance with a complete estimate. Very unprofessional and still no update from the adjuster.
I had to get the manager involved (Robert) who told me that I could take the car to a body shop of my choice. I refused to go back to Carstar because of their incompetence. I told the manager that the adjuster assigned to the case was clearly not responding to my emails or calls and his response was that he was working on it. Long story short, its been over 5 weeks and still haven't had this claim settled. I will go out of my way to tell each person I know and others to avoid Travelers insurance and Carstar.

Quite Impressed

Someone rear ended my vehicle. After getting the accident report all I had to do was to call and get a claim initiated. The claims associate was thorough and courteous. Set up everything, including a rent a car booking for me. She gave me an address of repair shop that offers warranty, as they are their approved vendor, which was optional for me.

Got the car repaired in a couple of days and had a great customer experience. I was quite impressed.

Accident - Dominion client at fault, and charged with turn not in safety. Our SUV being fixed in shop one week now. They (Dominion) have still not replied to my insurance company, one week later. I am not paying the deductable.

Signed, not at fault. Mad as hell!

The Dominion Insurance, you suck.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Ripoff!

Wouldn't fix the car properly after the accident. They installed "used" parts and now there is an loud low whining sound while driving. Gas mileage has gone up 41% since "repair". Garage says that the problem is a part that needs to be replaced (cost:$2000) but the appraiser says it existed before the accident. How does he know?? Did he drive my vehicle without my knowing it? The adjuster was totally indifferent to my and the repair shops inquiries and her manager was just as uncaring. It was as if my bloated monthly premiums didn't matter. I'm tired of the Insurance Industry ripping off Ontarian's. We pay some of the highest premiums in the country (and a hell of a lot more than in the States!) and get less service for the money!

That's why I'm encouraging socialized auto insurance in Ontario. If B.C. can have it why can't we?
