I have been with SquareOne for the last four years. Last year, when I went from a rental to a condo, they readjusted my policy for the new place. The cost was almost double which I thought just made sense given that there are additional items to insure when it came to a condo (~$95/m).
Recently, my policy is up for renewal again so I started doing some shopping. Sonnet gave me a quote of ~$50. I thought there was something wrong so I called Sonnet. They walked me through the comparison and the coverage was the same. After that, I called SquareOne to complain and they lowered my policy $30 to $65 the same day. Normally I would be happy about this but I found it very strange they were able to do that so quickly. Tells me they were gouging me. I will likely be moving onto Sonnet.
The price is increased year after year so even if you get a better quote initially you'll end up paying way more (they refer to this as "standard practice"). The policy changes yearly as well and of course for the worst for you.
All of the fake reviews they have here speak volume how badly they need to cover up for their service.
I started shopping around for home insurance, my current company is charging me $79.56/month for my small bungalow. I saw an ad from onesquareinsurance that said most rental homes are around $70.00 per month, so I did an online quote and was blown away by their $245/month quote. I called in and they confirmed that was their correct amount. I thanked the gentleman on the phone and hung up. This is by far the most expensive quote I have had yet.
I had my first claim with them in January, and today (June 1st) it is still not completed. My adjuster Scott T provided a response time between 1 - 4 weeks after an email or voicemail was sent, finally provided a formal estimate 4 months after the initial request, 4 phone calls and 10 emails later (I'm fairly patient). But the quote changed 15% from his verbal estimate to formal written estimate. There is still no end in sight, and no process discussed about the payment.
I went through and entered all of my information to acquire a tenant insurance policy. It was only after I entered all of my personal and property information that they disclosed they won't write policies if the owner lives more than 300 kilometers from the property. They even had a question during the quote process asking this. Even though I answered that question, they still proceeded to collect my information.
I was with Square One for several years. One reason I went with them was their competitive rates. When I signed with them you were able to choose ( within a window) the insured value of your home. They said that was what made them different. Slowly this insured value began to increase until it was 25- 30 more than other Brokers. My renewal last year had an increase of over 100 %. Also, the staff do not have the knowledge to answer simple questions. It is like they are reading from a prgrammed set of answers. For example, I installed a sump pump. I got numerous email questions on what was powering the pump, etc. After they finally made the change to my policy my rate INCREASED! I could not get a reasonable answer as to why so I deleted the pump and my rate when back DOWN. I had too many problems to mention. I just cancelled my policies and went with another Broker.
Stay away from Squqre One!
Very easy and clear policy creation process. It's my first experience with Squareone. Their step-by-step policy wizard saved me aprox $120 a year over my existing TD Insurance policy

I've been without any home insurance for 2 years because the prices were too high. Now that I'm renewing my mortgage I need insurance. Square one offered me a competitive quote and allowed me to maximize all deductibles to minimize cost. Living in Vancouver where 90% of my net worth is in the land rather than any structures, it makes sense to minimize coverage and and annual insurance costs.
Very streamlined quotes and easy to startup. My old policy was 2500 which crept up even though I didn't have any claims, and this one one is 900.
