My home insurance has more than doubled in just 4 years! It's time to shop around for a better insurance company.
I like Johnson since I get airmiles and they gave me a better rate than my previous insurer when I got a new car almost 3 years ago. The girl I talk to was easy to work with.
Canadians pay, on average, approximately $20 per month in tenants insurance. Do you rent or plan to rent a property and want to reduce insurance costs? We will help you get a cheap tenant insurance quote today.
Had house and auto, I was paying 204 a month with no claims other than one that was 10 years ago for an accident. Every year my insurance was going up. I was thinking of purchasing a new car which I was driving a 3-year-old RAV4 at the time and my insurance was gonna go up about 15 dollars a month, my RAV4 was still worth more than the new car. I called around and I got both home and car for 127 a month. Big difference! So, I called Johnson. But a couple of weeks later my new payment came out which it was supposed to and to my surprise so did the old one. So now I don’t have enough money to cover my other bills, I called them and they said they can’t do anything, they are worse than the government when they owe you the money you have to wait just like them. And they told me they won’t know if it cleared or what I would be getting back of that payment. I felt like I was robbed the last couple of years with them, and now I know I am. And they don’t care I asked if anything can be done and a lady said - "I am sorry we have to wait till the end of the month to see if it clears".
I have had my insurance for almost 30 years with Johnson inc for two homes, vehicles, RV as well as having had my two adult sons get their insurance through them they do not consider any loyalty. Recently, I had issues with my renter so did not renew my contract with them ending May 1st and decided to do renovations on my old home before future renters moved in. I did the renovations taking approximately two months. I advised my insurer of the renovations and that the home was vacant during this time however was there every day doing the renovations and ensuring no issues arose during the vacancy as well as my property management company were looking advertising for new renters. Johnson decided they would no longer insure my rental property being a customer for 30 years stating the rental property was vacant and if I want to insure it I had to go to another of their providers under them and would have to pay 4 times the previous rate yearly on that property. Even after stating I check the house every day, mow the grass weekly and ensure no problems, a loyal customer they refused to extend it a month or two until my Property manager got me new renters. Their attitude basically is the greed in their almighty dollar and no consideration in my advising them of the fact was doing the renovations and should have lied to remain with my policy. Shame on you Johnson Inc for basically telling me they have no customer loyalty appreciation, and honesty and to go to another provider. One claim on the old house back in approx 1999. Poor customer service period.
They shouldn't even be in business. It's like dealing with a fraud / fake company. Your claims adjuster never answers your call and if he does he has no answers for your questions. My basement was flooded On Jul 16 and they are still working on my file they say. Wait time is more than an hour and finally, when you get to talk they transfer you again which takes you to the voicemail of the person you wanna talk to. I wish I had seen these reviews before I chose them for my insurance. Their prices are way high and very poor coverage. Their price goes up without your notice. IF YOU HAVE INSURANCE WITH JOHNSON PLEASE CHANGE IT, IF YOU EVER HAVE A CLAIM YOU WILL BE GOING THROUGH A NIGHTMARE. These reviews on this website are true please read them, keep them in mind when you choose your insurance company.
We had always felt well insured with Johnson Unifund. We had a windshield chip claim 6 years ago, and they bent over backwards to accommodate us & facilitate the repair. However, for the past 3 years, we’ve had huge increases to both our home & auto policies. This year our home policy went up 20%, despite a stellar credit rating (don't even get me started on that!) and no claims. I spoke with 3 different representatives trying to find ways to bring down the cost of our home policy: I was told to “go shop around if I felt their prices were too high”. The last representative reminded that I had “called several times, was I expecting a different price?” I gave up, pulled our auto policy & went elsewhere, saving $1258 for 2019-2020.
Coverage keeps changing but rates keep going up. Very poor customer service. Tried for 3 days to get an answer to the question. Never did get through to a human being. Finally switched to another company.
Paid into this company for well over a decade. Got two small claims about 4 years apart and provable with police arrests. Next thing I know my whole policy is altered against my wishes that greatly reduced my coverage and jacked my premiums. They still have made many thousands, perhaps tens of thousands of dollars off of me for several policies, but that isn't enough for them. You will never get them to pay a penny towards a claim, once they are finished screwing you over with arbitrary policy changes that have nothing to do with any change in your risk to them.
Johnson Insurance was great until I had to make a claim. You would think that after paying ~$250/month for the last 7 years (which by my math is over $20,000 in premiums) the company wouldn't be put out by a couple of stolen-bicycle claims (I live in Toronto, and anyone who lives here knows how common bike theft is) that amounted to $1,500, but nope, the company sent us a letter cutting us off on account of our 'frequency of claims' (2, in years). Crooks.

I had my home insured by Johnson for the last 7 years, with no claims. When I signed up, the rate was reasonable but had been increasing every year since. My rate now is 150% what it was upon signing up. So I finally catch on and switch to a competitor ( for roughly the same price I paid 7 years ago) and they say they have to charge me $130 for cancelling in the middle of the contract. What a bunch of bull. Look elsewhere for your insurance, you'll be glad you did.
