Go elsewhere

1 out of 5 stars
Johnson Insurance refused to cancel my deceased Mother's policy unless they heard from both executors of the estate, they were contacted and sent a copy of the death certificate and they continued to take the payments out of my Mothers bank account knowing full well she was deceased and her condo was sold. They even sent a registered letter addressed to my Mother 16 months after her death asking for payment or they would cancel her policy!!! Run, don't walk, away from this sham of a company!! They don't deserve the one star I was forced to give in order to review this mess of a company. Their customer service was no help either!!
They are cheap but they are horrible to deal with in every possible way. They told us our policy was cancelled and continued to take payments from us even though we talked to them and sent various emails stating we were cancelling our policy for both home and auto and they are still arguing with us that we didn't cancel the policy. And when we made a claim, they were horrible and expensive and not upfront about what was required. A month after we had the work done they started making requests for pictures before (which we obviously couldn't get because the work was done), during and after. And for a receipt. I had asked them prior to the work being done what they needed and I had emails stating "nothing"
So this bunch of geniuses refuse to stop charging me insurance on a house I no longer own or live in. They refuse to cancel the policy because my ex moved to BC and hasn't confirmed the house is sold. Apparently, neither the agreement of purchase and sale (with her signature on it) nor the information from the Government of Nova Scotia deed registry is enough proof. They also refuse to put in writing that they will cover said home until such time as the policy is cancelled. They say this is because I no longer live there. That is the kind of logic you will get if you deal with these people. Spend your hard-earned money with another company.
I had my home insured by Johnson for the last 7 years, with no claims. When I signed up, the rate was reasonable but had been increasing every year since. My rate now is 150% what it was upon signing up. So I finally catch on and switch to a competitor ( for roughly the same price I paid 7 years ago) and they say they have to charge me $130 for cancelling in the middle of the contract. What a bunch of bull. Look elsewhere for your insurance, you'll be glad you did.
I had an experience with Johnson Insurance and papers all drawn up and was leaving a company over price to save some money, so I emailed the very nice lady that wrote up the policy that we signed and they were getting ready to take payments from, then because I asked a simple honest question today received an email telling me to stay with my current company and that Johnson insurance will cancel everything . It blew me away not expecting to be treated like that so then they offered to fix it which woke me up if this is what I am dealing with now what would it be like if I had a claim so I canceled because sometimes it’s about security not price it’s better to pay a bit more to the company you know and ask them for the discount when you get a renewal. Johnson saved me a future heartache and I would never recommend this company to anyone
My home insurance has more than doubled in just 4 years! It's time to shop around for a better insurance company.
We moved from an apartment to our first home and all seemed well with our Johnson insurance until a month later when our mortgage company contacted us to ask what we were going to do about our cancelled insurance policy. The Johnson agent didn't process the payment properly, so they cancelled the policy with no notice of any kind - in fact, the copy of the cancel letter we received was addressed to the mortgage company, not to us. We think it is sorted out now, after a panicked phone call or two, but we don't really feel safe with Johnson at the moment.
Customer service poor: long waits on the phone, promises for calls back that never came, emailed questions that went unanswered.
We were paying an extra $500 because the insured property we were renovating for rental was not occupied, which was fine, however without warning we received a termination letter in the mail because we had exceeded the unoccupied period allowed (despite there being workers at the house 6 days/week) that we had never been informed about.
We got a tenant in and reinstated the insurance, then 2 months later received another letter of termination saying that we were too close to a commercial business, presumably the gas station across the side alley, again something that we were never asked about or informed of, nor can we find in the documentation.
We have since moved our insurance to another company for this property despite it costing a little more, and will do the same with our primary residence shortly.
Called today to get a quote for tenant insurance and was told they couldn't help me because I lived above a business then he said "yeah you can't live 49 metres within a business!" Bologna then he said "why not stay with your current insurance company and get a different person to handle your insurance!" In which I said "this isn't fair and your company will never get my business ever!"

Had house and auto, I was paying 204 a month with no claims other than one that was 10 years ago for an accident. Every year my insurance was going up. I was thinking of purchasing a new car which I was driving a 3-year-old RAV4 at the time and my insurance was gonna go up about 15 dollars a month, my RAV4 was still worth more than the new car. I called around and I got both home and car for 127 a month. Big difference! So, I called Johnson. But a couple of weeks later my new payment came out which it was supposed to and to my surprise so did the old one. So now I don’t have enough money to cover my other bills, I called them and they said they can’t do anything, they are worse than the government when they owe you the money you have to wait just like them. And they told me they won’t know if it cleared or what I would be getting back of that payment. I felt like I was robbed the last couple of years with them, and now I know I am. And they don’t care I asked if anything can be done and a lady said - "I am sorry we have to wait till the end of the month to see if it clears".
