Dealing with them now for a claim - we had a plumber, house inspector and structural engineer come in and say that the water damage was from a sump pump failure. Without sending any professionals themselves, they rejected the claim saying that it was a weeping tile issue. I mentioned that I was going to escalate the issue to the ombudsman, the manager from economical said "just get a lawyer" - it seems as if they are counting on us not pursuing this claim because of steep lawyer fees. Sump pump failure is covered by our premiums, but they are trying their best to avoid paying. We buy insurance for when the unexpected occurs - well with this company you can count on bad customer service, aggressive assessors, condescending team leads, and just an awful experience.

My mother is insured with Economical for over 50years with only
2 claims during this time. every year i call for explanation about the
huge increases. (almost doubled in the last 5 years)---all excuses
about large claims etc. Last year with the floods and huge storms
she put a claim for roof and water damage. they sent an adjuster
from Alabama (to toronto) and his findings was that the roof
had some wear and tear therefore no coverage. the roof was
about 10 years old. I insisted on having the claim dropped as
I had requested clarification on this before he was sent and they
had already decided that she was not going to be covered.
It was dropped but i was told that all the repairs had to be done at her
expense and proof had to be sent that it was completed before
she could be re-insured. SERIOUSLY - we are now obliged to keep
our homes is perfect updates and repairs so we can buy insurance
so that there is "NO RISK" to them!!! And what is the
purpose of insurance again??? If my house is all perfect
and updated what is the purpose of these insurance companies?
