Claim experience

During the fires in Fort McMurray economical were terrific because as one adjuster claimed the did not want bad press. Since arriving back home after mandatory evacuation we discovered a leak in our basement after heavy rain this was caused by bad drainage. Economical have been extremely difficult with this claim and have denied it. I will be considering a change of insurance companies now.
When my basement flooded recently, due to constant torrential rains falling for days on end, and finally coming through the basement wall, Economical Insurance refused the claim I had made. Their reason given for refusing the flood damage claim was explained away as this : Somewhere in the fine print there was a clause excluding the validity of anything other than flooding due to a burst plumbing pipe or coming through a floor drain. They , at no point, had made any diligent effort to let me know that I wasn't covered for this all too common experience among property owners. Or even more simply, just raised the amount I paid per year to cover this possible occurrence.. No, it seems obvious that their tried and true method is to skin the client for lofty premiums without ever paying out a nickel to the client in his hour of need. Therefore, Economical Insurance is not only a band of thieves, but they lack basic human empathy . The worst insurance company in the world is spelled - Economical .
The claim was made in October 2020 - Six months later - still no work has begun. Poor communication for the last six months. No support. No assistance. The claim was a result of the Strata flood. The strata claim has been completed months ago. Because of "improvements" (rug changed to laminate), the claim had to go through our insurance. Our insurance did not work with Strata insurance. Did not work well with anybody.
I have a claim from water damage. It took a while to repair the damage because they want me to go to their preferred restoration company. The adjuster failed to explain that when upgrading from carpet to laminate floor has to go nothing to do with them and they are not responsible if any issue arises. The adjuster only explains that if I go with their preferred restoration company I would have 2 years warranty. I tried to escalate the issue to their ombudsman office but bias is what I got. It's misleading, unfair and blindsided me. They only care about your premium. I do not recommend this Economical Insurance. Until now I was left our defect installation of new laminate floor unresolved.
Dealing with them now for a claim - we had a plumber, house inspector and structural engineer come in and say that the water damage was from a sump pump failure. Without sending any professionals themselves, they rejected the claim saying that it was a weeping tile issue. I mentioned that I was going to escalate the issue to the ombudsman, the manager from economical said "just get a lawyer" - it seems as if they are counting on us not pursuing this claim because of steep lawyer fees. Sump pump failure is covered by our premiums, but they are trying their best to avoid paying. We buy insurance for when the unexpected occurs - well with this company you can count on bad customer service, aggressive assessors, condescending team leads, and just an awful experience.

My mother is insured with Economical for over 50years with only
2 claims during this time. every year i call for explanation about the
huge increases. (almost doubled in the last 5 years)---all excuses
about large claims etc. Last year with the floods and huge storms
she put a claim for roof and water damage. they sent an adjuster
from Alabama (to toronto) and his findings was that the roof
had some wear and tear therefore no coverage. the roof was
about 10 years old. I insisted on having the claim dropped as
I had requested clarification on this before he was sent and they
had already decided that she was not going to be covered.
It was dropped but i was told that all the repairs had to be done at her
expense and proof had to be sent that it was completed before
she could be re-insured. SERIOUSLY - we are now obliged to keep
our homes is perfect updates and repairs so we can buy insurance
so that there is "NO RISK" to them!!! And what is the
purpose of insurance again??? If my house is all perfect
and updated what is the purpose of these insurance companies?
