Convenient but expensive

I was with a broker for over 10 years. I decided to move 4 policies to Sonnet in 2018. No claims were made since then. I reduced my risk, by replacing 4 hot water thank in 2018 and 2019. A few days ago, I received a notice that my policy had been renewed, but the rate is was quoted in the email. I went to check on web site and saw a + 80% rate increase... hidden on their web site, hoping I would not notice it. Guess what's next... Bye bye Sonnet... Don't been fooled by the 1st year rates, they will kill you the following years.

We had a condo insurance policy with Sonnet and the rate continued to increase year over year. This November we had to renew the policy and decided that paying $88/month for a 2-bedroom-condo is too much. So we found something much cheaper - finished going with Square One Insurance for $57/month for an identical policy.
I can not deny that Sonnet is very convenient as you can do everything online avoiding unnecessary calls but at the end it turned out to be too expensive, once we started comparing the prices. A good decision.
A bit of unpleasant experience - two days after cancelling our Sonnet policy (I cancelled before it was renewed for another year) I got an email from them saying that I owe them over $950 for the new policy - that did not make me happy. I called them the next day just to find out that it is an automatically generated email and, since I cancelled before the renewal, I do not owe them anything. But that is something that should not have happened. At least, the lady on the phone was very helpful and friendly and the phone waiting time was not long: 3-4 minutes.
