Never go with these scammers!!

Charge a hefty cancellation fee! More than 1K, just for cancelling auto insurance. Never indicate in advance their insurance is indeed a contract with heavy fees to break!

ABSOLUTELY THE WORST COMPANY

by DESPAIR on Oct 16, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

DESJARDINS - ABSOLUTELY THE WORST COMPANY I HAVE EVER EVER EVER HAD TO DEAL WITH. I was in an accident January 2018 - 10 months later, I am still fighting with them to pay some of the repairs. They keep saying yes, yes we agree to pay a certain amount but yet 10 months later still no money from them. I just got fed up and wanted my truck fixed before winter, so I ended up just paying for repairs myself. I was granted massage therapy and physiotherapy after this accident, which I used up. Now I am fighting with them to simply close my claim so that I can move on and be done with them once and for all. The massage and physiotherapy offices have been trying to get ahold of them for months now too and finalize my claim and to close my file. To make matters worse, I can not get coverage with a new insurance until the claim is CLOSED with Desjardins

5 Year New Vehicle Protection

by Darden123 on Dec 31, 2017
1 out of 5 stars

After 3 months, I finally have resolved my claim. Anybody insured with this plan should be aware that it is vital to understand it before paying the additional premium. It is written very poorly and lacks much clarity. The Superintendent of Insurance (Alberta) was involved in my claim and has asked for additional clarity in the documentation. There is no definition of total loss so each claim has its’ own definition provided by the adjuster. Unless you can prove a total loss it will be considered a partial loss so the threshold is critical. So much so that I would advise all to get the definition before paying further premiums, which will rise each year. The value of the damaged vehicle must be added to the cost of repairing it and the cost of the rental. If that amount exceeds the cost of replacing your vehicle you have a solid argument to demand a new current year vehicle.

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Money grabbing insurance

I've had much insurance and as I know if you have a good driving record every year your annual premium usually goes down and insurance would be cheaper except for Desjardins! Instead of awarding the good drivers they raise the cost to 60 dollars extra per month from paying 195 per month to 251 per month when it came to my renewal I've had no accidents or claims... Called another insurance and they were able to give me the coverage for 215 per month that a saving of over 500 a year... Never will I return as a customer of Desjardins. They need to learn to compete with their competitors and stop trying to take people's hard-working money... horrible just horrible rates. Anyone thinking of switching to this insurance company I advise you to try someone else!

Not trasted company

Last year my rate was $109 per month, this year went up to $115 even though I was convinced at the begging to use App which is measuring my driving and gives the discount at the end. So my discount was 21%! Now count $109 vs $115 and where is 21%? They said they change parameters in the system - good not know but I see >30% increase (including 21% discount). Never trust this company.

Terrible company

I've been insured with desjardins auto insurance for over 5yrs then they just increased my premium without any notices.
I haven't got any demerit points or claims or tickets.
They've been collecting over $2,000 per year from my account and now they want more money!!
Beware of this insurance company.

Jacked up rates at renewal

by Some1 on Aug 25, 2017
2.5 out of 5 stars

I have been with them for one year. I'm a driver with 15 years experience, clean history, no accidents, no tickets. I shop and compare my insurance every year at renewal time. So I was astonished when I received the renewal from them - $430 more per year. When I called in to inquire why my rate increased so much, they said it was nothing specific to me and that they had to pay out a lot of fraudulent claims so everyone's rates went up. The guy on the phone sounded like he was reading off a script. When I compared the breakdown of the new premium to last year they substantially increased the liability portion and even the accident forgiveness endorsement went up from $60 a year to $100! What a ripoff! I searched online and found 7 other insurance companies who had a lower rate than Desjardins. Personally, I think what they do to lure in good drivers with clean history is they give you ridiculously low rate in the first year and then jack them at renewal hoping that you will stay and not bother with comparing other options. Or they want to force you to use their smartphone app to track your driving habits. Apparently, if you use it for a whole year you may save a bit of money at renewal time at the expense of personal privacy and them knowing where you are all the time. Sorry, no, next! So if you do get a crazy low rate with them online, just beware that they will likely jack it up a lot at renewal. Always shop and compare at renewal and have no loyalty to any insurance company. They're all the same!

I've had 2 claims, no issues!

I've been through 2 not-at-fault claims with Desjardins and I have had no issued. They paid for a rental the next day and told me where to go to get my car fixed. Service was easy and quick. I have been with Desjardins for 7 years.

I don't know what all of the reviews here are complaining about. You blame provincial legislation roadblocks on the insurance company!

This will happen with EVERY INSURANCE COMPANY! So learn how insurance works before blaming good companies for your own ignorance

YES, if you tell them you had an accident they will raise your rates (even if they don't pay anything)
YES, if you don't get the other driver's information you're responsible for your own claim!
NO, you will not get your windshield replaced without a deductible.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

READ ALL THE REVIEWS BEFORE BEING INSURED WITH THEM. A friend of my son was with them and took more than three months to settle his claims. Goodbye to them.
