I've been an RBC Insurance customer - home, auto and life - for 16 years and I have never had bad service until they were bought out by Aviva. We are currently in the middle of finalizing a claim that we filed over two months ago. On two occasions I was told that someone 'would get back to me tomorrow' or 'in 1-2 business days.' It's been over a 10 days since I was told tomorrow. These are facts, not my own opinion.
Recently the ABS fuel tank of my car was punctured by a sharp object on the road. When I contacted the AVIVA/RBC Insurance Claims Department, the representative told me that I can only file a claim if my car was damaged in an auto collision. I then told the representative that I am filing a claim under the comprehensive coverage provisions of my policy. I pleaded with the representative to give me the opportunity to explain to her the nature and cause of the damage. After listening, the representative informed me that the damage to fuel tank was caused by the rust from wear and tear. I told her that tank was made of ABS and hence was not susceptible to damage from rust. During my conversation, I determined that the AVIVA/RBC Claims Representative did not have the basic understanding of the major components of a motor vehicle and was reading of a script on her monitor. I finally threatened her that I would not only be cancelling my policy but will also pursue all available legal and statutory remedies should AVIVA/RBC Insurance fail to fulfill its obligations under the insurance policy. The AVIVA/RBC Claims Representative realizing the seriousness of my threat transferred me to her supervisor. I found the supervisor to be equally incompetent, but understood that I was not going to walk away without exhausting all remedies that are available to me. Ultimately, the supervisor took the necessary steps to ensure that AVIVA/RBC Insurance assessed and paid for the repair in accordance with the terms of the policy. It is worth noting that the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has produced a documentary on AVIVA and its nefarious practice of avoiding payments for legitimate claims. My unpleasant experience with AVIVA/RBC Insurance and my reading of the experience of other AVIVA/RBC Insurance customers on this site has caused me to seriously reassess the continuation of my AVIVA/RBC Insurance auto and home insurance policies.

I have recently filed a claim with Aviva and I have spent the last 3 months trying to get my claim finalized. With the later 2 months of those 3 months going back and forth with Aviva, claim rep advised verbally and through numerous emails that she would cover my claim in full, reimburse me for any invoice I submitted and when it comes down to the crunch she lies, renege's on her previous emails, gives threatening innuendo's and when I question it with a supervisor, I am told that they have over indemnified me in regards to my claim and that I am not entitled to what I was advised to by said Claims Department. I have many products with Aviva and needless to say they will be losing me as a customer as soon as I am able to find an alternate insurance provider.
To say the least, AVIVA, is not a reputable Company and I would NEVER RECOMMEND their services for anything.
I have never seen a organization that hates business as much as this joke. I could pull the first ten people off the street and they would do a better job. Sounds like a place that hires kids to run the place and no one actually knows why they are there. If you took NOTHING and turned it into NOTHING would still do more than what they are capable off.
I Laugh how you HAVE to give them one star at least, I guess that's the only way they earn them through all their negative reviews LOL!
They called me at work today to tell me that damage to my car was wear and tear! The nerve. After being an RBC customer for more then 15 years, paying them without issue over the years, never had an issue with RBC insurance until Aviva took over the car insurance, this is the fist claim filed with Aviva. The rep told me flat out that the estimator report said it was wear and tear. You have to a complete idiot to believe that! It is very obvious it is not wear and tear! So I was pretty upset with Aviva, so she then said she will call the estimator and speak with him. So I called the estimator myself, and he said he put on the report this is a legitimate claim, never mentioned anything about any wear and tear. And he was not contacted by Aviva, he said he would contact them to try and straighten it out. I am going to cancel all my insurance with them. They are going to lose on this one not me!
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
Out of all the companies I have dealt with for insurance, Aviva is by far the worst I have experienced in many years of dealing with insurance companies.
Aviva gave me the monthly insurance payment schedule with the dates that the company would take the payment from my bank account. They waited for 5 days after the scheduled withdrawal date to go into my account to get the payment. As a result, there was a domino effect on my transactions and they messed up my banking. They were asked to return the administration fee to me because it was THEIR MISTAKE and they refused to return the money instead blaming the situation on me.
AVIVA, if you give your customer a schedule with dates on it then IT IS UP TO YOUR MANAGEMENT to make sure that the EFT withdrawals get processed and withdrawn from your customers bank accounts on the dates provided by Avival. If you cannot manage this simple process, then find another job!
Moved to the states couple of weeks ago and informed them about the move. And I told them that I would get insurance from the states and will cancel their insurance as it was time for renewal of the contract and I didn't see a reason to renew it. Yet, they renewed it automatically with a rate hike without getting my approval and got the money from my bank account with the new rate that I didn't approve just before the renewal date. The date I was planning to cancel while checking my bank account, I was shocked when I realized that they renewed it and got first month taken from my bank account without approval.

This is by far the worst insurance company I have ever been with. Someone hit me recently. I let the adjuster know I was leaving the country and I needed to know what was going on. He said he would let me know within the week. I heard nothing. Called three times and left two emails with no response. I called and had it escalated and he miraculously called me the next day. He told me they still had no decision about whether my car would be deemed a total loss (three weeks after the accident and an estimate was done at the very beginning of the claim). He said he would let me know by the next day. Heard nothing for three more days. Called today to say it's a total loss and stop driving it right now. Told a rental car would be provided within fifteen minutes they would call me. Two hours later no call. Called adjuster and he didn't answer. Office is now closed, I have no rental and can't drive my car.....Guess I have to cancel work. I pay good money for my insurance, and an accident that wasn't even my fault has now put me out because my own insurance company is lazy and incompetent.
I will try to keep this brief. No adjuster contacted me for three working days after I phoned immediately (during working hours) from the accident. The body shop and towing compound sought out me over the next several days because they were not getting information to proceed from AVIVA. The body shop contacted me for approval of repairs while AVIVA failed to inform me of any progress (they had been debating write off versus repair). I contacted AVIVA for information. The adjuster eventually (several days later) told me that although extensive damage that the car was repairable because the damage was less than 70% of the value of the car. I pointed out that, with simple math and the value and damage figures they provided to me, the damage exceeded 75% of the value, without regard to the 20% contingency that the repairs might grow by because the extent of repairs was hidden. The response was to up the valuation of my car by $6000 to make the math work. I requested a supervisor because nothing made sense and because the adjuster was bulling me into accepting their terms and if I didn't agree immediately to their terms I must assume immediate possession of vehicle including charges to remove from body shop and expenses to date and accept a cheque that would not cover repairs. The supervisor the adjuster handed me over to (by my request) turned out to be just another adjuster but fooled me until after I was beaten and agreed to AVIVAs terms. All of this happened when the other parties insurance accepted full blame and costs from the start. You never know how good your insurance is until you submit a claim!
All the reviews below are true. I've been an RBC customer for 5 years and always had great customer service with no issues. Now that Aviva has taken over, I've encountered nothing but problems.... adjusters taking an unreasonable amount of time to return calls IF AT ALL, receiving a low ball offer on the replacement of my car and barely budging once I submitted a second appraisal that I paid for out of pocket, disorganization and neglect right from the start of the claim process to now where I am still fighting with them 3 months later to get a fair evaluation. Aviva Insurance is widely known for their unfair practices and finding any way to get out of their contractual obligations. I don't know how they sleep at night, scamming hard-working people out of what they are entitled to after paying insurance premiums for so many years. AVOID AT ALL COSTS !!!!
