I work for a company that uses SSQ for invalidity/salary insurance for their employees obviously for protecting employees who are signed off work by a health professional. Unfortunately, SSQ does not send the salary to it's paying costumers/members, on time and/or simply stop sending it without notice. You have to spend countless hours with them to figure out what's happening, they always come up with new demands from a health professional (cost +/- 100$ each time ), reports, assessment, etc and this is ongoing. Even if you are 100% on top of their demands they still stop payments at any time for their own pleasure, then good luck getting things moving, grab a coffee and a magazine cause you ll be busy all day with their request, phone calls and emails! I ended up having to send my emails directly to SSQ Insurance CEO, he's too busy to answer you but he does get the email and normally he delegates his work to the other employees). If your company wonders if they should go with SSQ, do your self a huge favour and encourage them not to do business with these crooks, the cost per employee is not only expensive but it doesn't protect you! In my opinion, take it for what its worth!
They shared medical information with my employer. They had no reason to call my employer but they did. I'm so mad with both parties but don't have much of a choice unless I quit my job.
And to make things worse no one will do direct billing with ssq. No one has even heard of them.
Through our municipal ( county ) government, SSQ is the provider of Accident & Sickness insurance for the rural firefighters. They are very difficult to deal with. Submitted documents take weeks to be processed, and if there is an error or a missing paper, they neglect to inform the claimant. Instead they wait for that person to inquire the reason for delay. Phone contact is usually met with rude, abusive comments. When the claim is finally approved, benefit payments are very erratic in their delivery, (often 2 or 3 months apart) causing great stress for the claimant. Their service is extremely poor, and they are not customer friendly.
My wife had a terrible experience with their group benefit. She suffered from very serious PTSD that caused a lot of issues from her work for very serious reasons I won't share. She was pregnant and we were concerned about our child's health therefore decided to seek help and was written off work immediately. When she applied for her sick leave she couldn't reach them at first for over a month then got denied after numerous attempts to sort it out with the proper information they asked for from her doctor and therapist, our doctor got very involved and was as irritated as we since we went back and forth for months. It put a very big financial and emotional strain on our family which was the last thing we needed to consider. I wouldn't wish that upon anyone. It's companies like this that make insurance companies look bad. It's a shame they exist.
