As a homeowner who had the misfortune of living next to someone insured by Cooperators Insurance, I find myself compelled to share the appalling experience I've endured. Demolition and renovations at my neighbor's property, resulted in significant damage to my home. Despite my neighbour being insured by Cooperators, the process of seeking compensation for the damages has been nothing short of a nightmare.
From the moment my neighbour filed a claim with Cooperators Insurance, I expected them to step up and fulfill their obligations as my neighbour's insurer. However, what followed was a relentless onslaught of denial, delay tactics, and outright refusal to take responsibility. It's become painfully clear that Cooperators has no qualms about abandoning innocent victims like myself in favour of protecting their bottom line.
What's even more egregious are the tactics employed by Cooperators Insurance in their attempts to avoid paying out claims. It's a shameful display of corporate greed and a complete disregard for the wellbeing of their policyholders' neighbours.
Throughout this ordeal, I've been treated with callous indifference by Cooperators Insurance. Instead of providing the support and assistance I need, they've chosen to prioritize their own interests, leaving me to bear the financial burden of someone else's renovations and negligence.
My experience with Cooperators Insurance has been nothing short of a nightmare, and I implore anyone considering them for their insurance needs to think twice. Avoid Cooperators Insurance if you value integrity, fairness, and genuine support in times of need.
I was with HB Group Insurance for my home insurance before it was taken over by The Cooperator’s. I had home and condo insurance with this company for over 20 years. In the past year, I had frequent contact with the Cooperator’s while I sold my condo, moved into an apartment briefly, continuing to store my belongings, and then finally bought a house. For the first 6 months the reps were great (helpful, understanding, and “cooperative” 😊 ). I don’t know what happened but after that, I was treated very rudely on about six occasions by 4 or 5 different reps in the latter months of 2023 (Aug-Dec). I have never been so happy to switch to another service company. I cancelled my account with Cooperator’s Dec 31, 2023 due to poor customer service. I’m glad to see in these reviews that I am not the only customer treated poorly by this company. Is it now a corporate culture? I suggest to the Cooperator’s, please re-train your employees in professional “customer service” workshops and add some kindness and compassion to your corporate culture. It will go a long way for improving your sales. I won’t go into all the details of my recent experiences, but my experience of poor customer service includes: my boundaries regarding timing for a phone call not respected; I was not heard regarding my request to be emailed with follow-up communication versus being phoned while I was in a meeting; I was upset as a result of my boundaries not being respected and then my words on the phone were read into and taken out of context, and repeated back to me several times; I was referred to a “customer advocate” who I think was really another sales person, but I ended up in tears because of the way I was treated. Overall, I felt like I was being accused and ridiculed on more than one occasion. I don’t think trying to buy house insurance should be such a harrowing experience. I was unable to place a “google review” via the Cooperator’s website. Thank you for providing a place to provide a review. I wonder if Cooperator’s reads these reviews.
During the Covid-19 lockdown, we were sent a letter stating that our premiums would remain in effect until after the lockdown because of the pandemic. So we assumed that our coverage was extended through the pandemic. We called today to find out that our home insurance was actually cancelled in the middle of the pandemic without us knowing. They asked if we did not receive an email (we didn’t). As we tried to renew our insurance, the customer service representative said it was time to close as it was 5 pm and we would receive the quote on Monday instead. I would have been okay with waiting but the time was actually 4.55 pm. In my case, I would have been alright with her just saying they would find a new quote by Monday but claiming they were closed was almost like saying they don’t care about my insurance needs. I used to be with another insurer and they treated us much better than this. Any insurance company that cannot make their customer feel valued is not one I feel comfortable with.

Do not look to purchase insurance with this company for home or condo. The company provides an extensive list of max insurable limits in the quote, making it look like you have comprehensive coverage. When you actually look at the policy after receiving it if you're alert or worse after an incident, then you'll soon find the list of common exemptions is a mile long and covers nearly every possible instance in which you'd ever use the insurance you pay for. The adjuster I dealt with was rude and unprofessional. They were unable to cite a line in the policy for me to review it, and repeatedly called me the wrong name even after correction. If you want to waste 6–7 hours going back and forth over insurance policy and builders reports only for them to not provide their own documents, be my guest.
