Dishonest Company

by eddie on May 4, 2022
1.3 out of 5 stars

Had a water damage claim in Spring 2021. I won't get into all of it here but, I've dealt with other carriers on claims and never once felt like I was getting the run-around or basically, being lied to. This company's representative that I dealt with misrepresented my coverage, misrepresented what caused the damage leading to my claim, adjust use false information in their reports, and for the most part, everyone was all in the game. I even wrote to the head of home coverage at Wawanesa and got the brush-off. It appears to me this company is rotten from the top down. With the help of private contractors, I was able to expose their shenanigans and received my entire claim value which was close to $2,000.00 more than where we started.

Not as cheap as you may think

by Doug on Apr 12, 2022
1.5 out of 5 stars

In 2021 had a call saying they would be sending someone out to inspect my house and property for insurance purposes I complied and let them do their thing and yes the house was inspected when we purchased it although that was many years ago now and keep in mind we have not had a claim in more than 17 years we have been with them. We renewed our policies and had not been notified anything of this till almost a year later when we were called and were told we would have to do some changes and reno’s to comply or they could refuse insurance coverage we have one year to complete these changes and have had some quotes on some of the things and we are already well over 10 000 in work I find this very unacceptable given Covid. We are finding it hard to find contractors and order materials that can commit within the year timeframe. Just so you know I am a particular person and would not let things get to decrepitude. We were asked to replace the roof cause one side shingles were starting to curl (not cheap), get someone to clean and inspect the wood stove chimney at our expense even though I have cleaned it (almost $1000), put up a lockable fence around our trampoline. So, neighbours, kids can’t come and get hurt on it (we live in the country and the closest neighbour is 2 miles away) what I’m trying to say is they have been relatively affordable for rates but it looks like in the long run they have been the most expensive I would not recommend I will definitely be switching.

Households in Alberta pay, on average, approximately $60/month in homeowners’ insurance costs. We can help to push these costs even further down. Get a house insurance quote today to start saving today. Rates start at $20/month.

"Scam Alert"

by CeeBee on Mar 25, 2022

My home was insured with Wawanesa Insurance for 28 years. My claim was initially approved in July 2018 and then in Sept. It was denied in 2018. Their 5 Step Concerns and Complaints process was a complete waste of time and I'm livid with them!
All the Department Heads disregarded my valid Concerns and Complaints. Their strategy is Delay Corresponding, Pass on the Apathy because Nobody Cares and they'll be sure to send you on a wild goose chase to waste your time. In January 2020 I began a very extensive study of the Personal Insurance Policy booklet published in May 2017 and found there is no "Inured Perils" for Property Coverage - Coverage A - Dwelling Building, aka Your Home. The Scam is "The Declarations which contain information that is unique to your insurance policy and which indicates the coverages you have purchased" does not provide coverages in the booklet. On the Declarations document under Property Coverage - Coverage A - Dwelling Building it looks like your home is insured for $$$. But in the booklet coverages do not exist. There is however a long list of "Specified Perils" under Section 1 - Loss and Damage Not Insured. I presented all of the proof to the Department Heads that their home insurance coverage is a Scam. It's a shame that Wawanesa Insurance which was founded in 1896 in the village of Wawanesa, Manitoba has sunk to a despicable level, scamming so many people with a false sense of home insurance coverages. It makes me Roar to Say Shame On Them!!!

Run!!!

A pipe broke under my house and these awful people didn’t want to cover it. I had to put a public adjuster and only after 1 year as 2 months got they to paid for it. Then a tenant that we had upstairs damaged a little hose/pipe from the dishwasher and didn’t tell us for a week and so we had water damage on most parts of the kitchen and down to our garage. They tried to not cover again but after 3 weeks of talking back and forth and we reminding them about a public adjuster they decided to covered it. Now we received a letter from them saying that they will not cover us anymore. No only that, they made our claims public with lies for other insurance companies see it and make it difficult for us to find another insurance.
So if you are looking for home insurance wawanesa is NOT A HOME INSURANCE OR THEY DON’T UNDERSTAND WHAT INSURANCE IS FOR!
Scammers!!!!
I absolutely don’t recommend this business!

They send their own contractors

by Rodolfo Casaldarnos on Aug 8, 2021
1.3 out of 5 stars

They send their own contractor to lower the cost of the claim patching a do poor repair then the contractor comes to make you sign the contract for the work and he never shows up again. The insurance company sends the cheque to you with your deductible but you will not have anymore hail insurance they treat it as a settlement and your house is not repaired! Run from this company!

Poor coverage

by Danny777 on May 19, 2021
1 out of 5 stars

I've had home insurance with Wawanesa for about 2 years now. I recently submitted a claim for the first time. The representative was very slow to get back to me, and when she finally did, she told me that Wawanesa wouldn't cover the source of the claim, they would only cover what was damaged as a result of the source. So, if a dishwasher leaks or roof caves in, I am to presume that they won't cover the dishwasher or roof, but will only cover other things damaged by the incident. What am I paying insurance for then?? Their low costs are not worth it if they won't cover you. When I asked the Wawanesa rep to clarify why the source of the incident isn't covered, she wouldn't answer my questions. Very unimpressed, and I will be looking for insurance elsewhere.

Worst company ever, beware

by CG on Dec 5, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

Worst company ever, beware would not recommend this to anyone, I was with them for 12 years and I had my first claim, they dragged me through the mud for 4 1/2 months then they denied my claim, now I need to go through a lawyer which will continue to drag. Worst customer service, ignorant, rude, horrible employees, Irene and Heather were the most horrible people I could have dealt with. Heather put my claim on hold for 1 month because she had a family emergency, never told us, didn’t return our calls and just horrible experience and people all around!!!

Equipment Breakdown Coverage

by dso on Sep 15, 2020
1.5 out of 5 stars

I had equipment breakdown coverage. This March my furnace died in -35 degree weather. I had my furnace replaced while I was at work. Wawanesa denied my claim because I was supposed to have known that I was to buy many space heaters until the part for the furnace that may have fixed it could be flown in 5 days later. No mention of paying the huge electric bill I would have had though they said they would have reimbursed for the heaters. I have pets and cannot imagine being expected to have to heat my house unsafely this way. No number of space heaters would have prevented my pipes from freezing. The fire risk would have been high and stressful when I would have to go to work. Now my renewal came on Friday, Sept 11th due to being paid by Sept 15th. Four days of which I had to work all of them. Seems they delayed letting the insurance broker have the renewals in a timely manner. Crooks, because if people don't jump to pay they would have no coverage and the 4-day time frame makes people rush to pay without thinking it through. I will be without insurance for a few days because I want to check out my options even though I will pay more. Pay over $1000 thinking I have coverage knowing they will find any excuse not to pay out or go with another company and pay more for insurance that is actually usable.
