"time at risk" excuse

Last year I had my insurance with CAA (Aviva), really nice company... then they sold out to My Insurance Company Hamilton (still with Aviva).I paid my Auto Insurance in full and because they combined all 3 of my insurance to come due on the day I had to pay the other 2 insured houses with a void cheque each month... everything seemed fine, even got my two 2 renewal house policies... so there didn't seem to be any problems... 'til I received a cancellation notice...no reason given... apparently, they forgot to send me some mysterious form to sign... Sandy W knew right away what had happened and even told me I wasn't at fault, that the mistake was theirs... still no one sent me the unsigned form... then suddenly a lady named Shannon took over and I was given an ultimatum to rush up there in rush hour traffic within 2 1/2 hrs to sign a form that wasn't the original form but for something else... at 69yrs of age, I am not going to endanger my Auto Insurance or my life to sign a form that wasn't the form of their original mistake... made up orriginally by a guy named Deno... I was threatened with cancellation again and would be sorry if I had to start a whole new policy again and at a higher cost... Aviva, you should listen to your faithful clients, not some new company that took over and is goofing up my policies... the stress has been very bad for me... I will accept an apology and activation of my original policies, nothing less... the new company needs to get their act together... thank you for this opportunity to voice my complaint... Cherry A.
We have a drain backup, but were proactive and managed to prevent it from destroying our basement. We called in the plumber immediately (Drain Rescue) who dug out the basement and replaced all the drain pipes and put a backwater valve. Aviva came in during the work process. As per our plan, we have taken the maximum coverage. We acted honestly and let them know that we prevented the water and emptied buckets after buckets of grey water outside the house and had switched off using water. During the entire repair process, we also switched off the furnace to prevent it from being ruined. We lost carpets, rugs and clothes. The Aviva rep informed us that they would only cover the backwater valve. There is a $1,000 deductible and so the clothes and rugs would not be covered. The carpets would be evaluated. We are still waiting not sure what they plan on giving us. Drain Rescue informed us that other insurances cover the cost of digging and the concrete. The pipe replacement cost is ours, but our Aviva Rep informed us we are not covered. Do I trust AVIVA? My previous insurance TD was much better, I had a drain problem in a Condo in 2005 and they evaluated our loss, replaced our flooring and cut us a cheque for losses which was very reasonable.
Probably the worst insurance company I've ever dealt with. Dishonest, over priced and not cooperative.
Living in Alberta, I had new home insurance coverage provided by the builder. Getting close to the one-year anniversary, I provided the builder a list of outstanding items which he agreed to fix. Over the course of the next few weeks, I was unable to get these items fixed and the builder completely ignored my calls. I decided to make a claim with Aviva the insurer. It took them close to three months to tell me that the initial warranty period had lapsed so they wouldn't cover anything. How can you work with the builder (who obviously doesn't want claims) yet be penalized when the builder doesn't come through. Don't be duped by this insurance provider...
I had house insurance with AVIVA for years and I recently wanted to start a claim with them for my roof leak (because of heavy rain). They sent a person to go and check the damage and this person needed a long time (three weeks) to make the report and send it to the office (and only because I kept calling and asking what's happening). After that, the office needed three weeks to reply (and again only because I emailed to ask what's happening). They denied me coverage for my roof because they said the damage was because my roof was not installed properly 13 years ago. The roofing company said this was a ridiculous and incorrect reason. Then AVIVA and their broker (CAA) tried to come up with different reasons to deny my claim and tried to use scamming manipulative techniques to scare me (such as giving me higher prices than what's normal of how much my insurance will increase if I have a claim and that if I have a claim AVIVA will cancel my insurance when my policy expires which will affect/flag my insurance history). I did cancel my house insurance with AVIVA and I will never deal with them or CAA ever again. Both are scammers.
Had a wind event that blew off shingles in two locations on my house and delaminated 30% of my shingles. They sent a roofer out to cover the 2 locations with black shingles (originals are brown) with nails through the top and left it like that.
That’s all they would do, very disappointing!
My house burned down. Aviva did not help. I had to continue to live in a burnt down house and a shed for the first three months and was accused of arson despite the police saying it is not arson I lost my job from being left homeless despite being fully insured so became unable to make a mortgage payment and property is now in foreclosure. My dog survived the fire only to die from being abandoned by Aviva. As if losing everything wasn't bad enough but the abuse and injustices I have faced from Aviva are far too long to list here. I believe they should not be allowed to sell insurance and should go to jail for their blatant disregard for the law, human decency and legally binding contract. See you in court Aviva. Already filled and the process started. Beware of Aviva. You are safer with no insurance!
While trying to reach an agent to discuss home insurance renewal I used the call back service. The first time I had a 90 minute wait and never received a callback. The second time the call disconnected. Once a call back was finally made, I went right back into the normal queue and had a 20-minute wait. So frustrating!
The sad thing is even with these complaints posted, Insurance companies will still do nothing. There is no interest in good customer service anymore. I will go through the company that holds my investments and life insurance for future insurance needs.

It's bad enough that the rates from my broker increased every year that I was with them but when I found a better price for better coverage with TD, they charged me $300 for "time at risk" and marked it past due.....from the day i cancelled my insurance. So i get to pay $300 for 12 days worth of insurance and will probably end up with interest because the pretty pink past due letter came in while I was away on my honeymoon. All together, i'm dissapointed.
Because i dealt with a broker, I never had any direct contact with the company.
