Stay away from Aviva

I raised a small claim 6 month ago and it is still not resolved. No one seems to know what he is talking about. Adjuster is never available and does not return calls. I kept calling support line and every time I had to explain the full story again. Every time I get a different answer, the answers are subjective based on each person and not based on rules. My adjuster told me that they will cover cost of damage not repair, but when I listed and took a picture of the damage, someone else said it is not covered. It has been escalated to a manager and she told me that claim will be denied and when I explained that someone else gave estimated value of $1400, she told me that she will call me back and she did not. If you are bored and want to be entertained, maybe go with this company, if you think your time is money, find someone more professional.
I opened a small claim back in June. I still do not know if my claim has been approved, I cannot get the adjuster to respond to my inquiries over the past 6 weeks. Multiple complaints have been filed, along with contacting the ombudsman-nothing.
Their 'service guarantee' is a massive lie.
Everything about this provider is awful. It seems like the company has completely ceased to exist after taking my premiums.
Don't waste your money.
I would give zero stars if I could
Canadians pay, on average, approximately $20 per month in tenants insurance. Do you rent or plan to rent a property and want to reduce insurance costs? We will help you get a cheap tenant insurance quote today.
I had a small claim for my property insurance. As my watch was stolen, they initially told me that I was covered. After I submitted all the documents, they kept delay the process and after three months, they denied my claim and didn’t disclose the reason. Imagine if it is a big issue, they would screw you over. Never insure with Aviva.
Stay away from this company, because you will be dealing with your emergency and Aviva. I had a small claim and Aviva’s customer service is the worst service I’ve had in my life so far. I had to keep records of emails, sending up to 5 emails to receive the answer to the same question ( that happened multiple times). Our claim broker disappeared, in the middle of the process, and after two weeks of waiting for an email or a call, we had to call a 1-800 number to find out that someone else was in charge of our claim, and the 1-800 gave us the email for this person to send and wait again for answers. As I say I had a small claim and this insurance company turned it into a tragedy, I can’t imagine if I lose my house in a fire or earthquake and if I have to deal with these people … stay away!
Had a very disappointing experience with the first claim we submitted ever in having home insurance. After a severe storm, we were forced to do the job of the adjuster who never visited on site. After repeated denial of insurance, they finally relented and agreed to settle the claim after the threat of legal action. Poor company. Good at taking premiums. Not so good at resolving claims. Will never use this company and would not recommend them to anyone.
Horrible claim experience. We wouldn't hear from our adjuster for weeks at a time, very unresponsive. Not willing to accept fault in miscommunications/mistakes made on their part, and we are left to pay the difference! Terrible customer service. Do not consider this company to protect your investments!
Aviva is a joke of a company. I put in a claim for water damage in my basement. The adjuster I had did not look at my Policy and managed to approve the company to take apart my entire basement. They left me with no walls, no shower, no flooring, NOTHING! We also could never reach this adjuster (he never answered his phone or responded to emails). We are now stuck having to pay out of our own pocket to put everything back (over $30,000). We are in a pandemic and this ridiculous company leaves us with an unfinished basement. We could have taken apart our own basement ourselves if we wanted to. Honestly don’t choose this company. They clearly have clowns working for them and you’ll just be stuck with a bigger mess than when you put in a claim.
We made a claim for water damage resulting from a broken hose on the washing machine in our second-floor laundry room. The contractor responded quickly with the delivery of a dehumidifier, but that dehumidifier stayed in our dining room for months despite frequent calls to you and the contractor. It was finally removed when we threatened to sell it. The insurance agent and the contractor then stated that our ceiling had been stippled and the ceiling damage was a result of removal of this stipple, not water damage. This was false as the house was built in 2010 and the builder testified that no ceiling was stippled; however, both the insurance agent and the contractor steadfastly held on to this claim that this did not represent water damage. The water damage was eventually repaired, but suboptimally. The subcontractor remarked to us at the time that he was only allowed to put two coats of paint on the repair because the insurance company and contractors had stated that they would not pay for a third coat which would result in a normal-appearing ceiling rather than a defective ceiling. Subsequent to this repair, secondary lesions developed. We had a second contractor inspect the ceiling and he noted a tide mark extending beyond the kitchen into the hallway leading to our ground-level bathroom. Both the insurance agent and contractor stated that they did not believe the second contractor because they could not understand how this could happen; note that our trust levels were not high as these were the same people who stated, despite all evidence to the contrary, that our ceiling had been stippled. Furthermore, both the insurance agent and contractor should be well aware of hydrodynamics. I suspect the insurance agent and the selected contractor were in cahoots and that no one was representing our interests.

Like everyone else, they are just the worst in every possible way. 14 weeks out and no project scope for repairs, no approvals given to replace electronics, repair or replace furniture, etc. Important documents, that could and should have been saved as per my policy, sit molding in a gutted home. Decisions/denials are made with no explanation or justification and if you press them for an answer they will stop responding to you. I've yet to be financially compensated for any out of pocket expenses (hotels, Airbnb, meals) $20K and counting. I had a fire water main break in my condo, obviously not my fault, I had the water to building shut off before the firemen arrived, saving $100,000s of dollars as my actions prevented other units from being damaged. I've provided every and all documentation they have asked for to move along the claim, but here I sit with no home, no compensation, no plan, no approvals and no end in sight. :( Run from Aviva
