Building suffered a major flood; building insurer covered, but my insurer was at hand if I needed. Ten years earlier, when living in a rental building and in a wheelchair after an accident, I suffered two floods from a broken radiator which the building only temporarily repaired. My insurer could not possibly have been more helpful or more fair. Major historic materials were destroyed and there was no argument about the lost value. I obtained letters from dealers to support my position; my insurer's attitude was superb.

I wanted a phone quote for a new home insurance policy so I called their phone number to speak with an agent. The agent who answered was immediately hostile in his tone of voice towards my request when I first spoke of just wanting a quote, going off on a mini tirade of the proper procedure for swapping insurance and cancellation penalties for leaving my current insurance company early. When I again restated my request for a quote the agent finally said "Sure I can do it, if that's what you want" again in an unprofessional tone, and then took a further standoffish manner of speaking when asking for more information to fill the information needed for the quote like I was immediately his enemy and personally ruined his day by calling the number. When he asked for my closing date and I told him, he went on another mini-rant about how he would be unable to provide a quote since rates are changing in the short term while continuing to speak to me in an aggressive tone. I had enough with his attitude and hung up, I asked for price for your service, not to be verbally berated by the salesman who clearly didn't want me as a customer. On the plus side, online the quotes they provide tend to be the lowest in the province.
