Claim Refused

I have been with Allstate for Auto and Home for over 20 years - claim free. In the past few years Allstate now offer "claim forgiveness" but when I put in a claim, last year, for a $1000 item, my home policy rate this year took a 30% hike - no explanation provided - just general hike ... Also, after separating from my husband - our truck (in both our names) was stolen. Allstate paid my husband out in full and I received nothing. When I called our agent, Jack H, to complain, he said "I understand why your husband left you" - nice!!
NEVER USE ALLSTATE! I am attempting to resolve a claim with Allstate and it’s one of the worst experiences I’ve had. I bought a Chevrolet car and it came with roadside assistance. When the car failed to start one morning, I had roadside assistance come to my home to tow it. A cable broke on the tow truck and it damaged my driveway and carport. Chevy is insured by Allstate, so I made my claim with them. I promptly furnished an estimate and have had over 20 email and phone communications with Nathan S. and Rodney N. in an attempt to get the repairs to my home. My driveway has several deep gouges and scratches. Because it’s coloured concrete, it’s impossible to simply patch (the red colour, faded by the sun for a decade, cannot be matched). The repair estimate is $6,000. After a week, Allstate offered to pay $500. As we disputed the claim, I asked S. to help me understand whether Allstate disagreed that the concrete could not be matched or if Allstate felt I should accept a visibly patched driveway. He refused to answer, so I asked him again: “Would you please answer my question. A or B. A. You believe that the concrete can be repaired to match. B. You believe I should accept a repair that shows a mismatched patch. I will send a photo showing the damage again so you understand it is not only two sections.” His terse reply was: “We will pay to fix only the damaged area of the driveway. You have turned in one estimate at this time. Will not pay the estimate you sent in for a complete driveway replacement. I am leaving it at that.” After another phone call and after I called Chevrolet, I received this email from S.: “From: S., Nathan Sent: Wednesday, November 01, 2017 11:25 AM Subject: RE: XXX driveway Done and paid” That was the complete email. But when I didn’t receive a check after two weeks, I inquired. S. answered: “From: S., Nathan Sent: Tuesday, November 14, 2017 11:44 AM Subject: RE: xxx driveway I was just made aware that I had sent you an email that states "done and paid". That is not on your case. I am very sorry about that but your case is under review with GM as well as management above me. Sorry for the confusion and we will update you as soon as we have an update on your case. I also don’t just email "done and paid" to customers. Any Email I send will have more context than that regardless if it is a denial or an approval.” Yes, seriously. That’s what he sent. Since that date, I asked to speak to a supervisor but S. refused. I asked, again, my original question about whether Allstate thinks I should accept a visibly patched driveway or if they don’t believe the colour can be matched but they refused to answer. I asked what Allstate’s standard for claim processing is and did not get a direct answer. It’s going on two months now and I’m no closer to getting my house fixed. Worst insurance company ever.
With much regret I had to part with Allstate Home insurance after 17 years (2000 to 2016). In recent years, I have found that there customer services have been going down the drain while the premiums were skyrocketing. Specially in the last one year, their agents (perhaps not all) have become very arrogant and rude. Instead of professional client service and meaningful communication, they have been redirecting calls and if one is lucky to get his/her agent, the conversation experience would leave a bad taste in the mouth. It seems that they have put a bunch of clerks in the customer services who would only point to their head office if a customer required clarifications. Obviously, they have not been trained, not only in customer services, but also in what they sell/service; property insurance. They never return calls even after leaving number of messages in their voicemail. I do not know about other agencies of Allstate, but this is my experience with the agency at 3003 Danforth Avenue.

In 2017, my balcony fell to the ground because of heavy snow and bad construction unknown to me. I understand the reasoning behind the refusal to pay. However, unforgivable was the service I received. They said an adjuster was on his way, and when he never showed up after a week and several phone calls, they told me they were very very busy with recent floods, and told me to do the work, take pictures and send to them. I refused to do their work, a few words were exchanged, we were not on good terms, and finally, they sent someone to check the cottage and the adjuster more or less condemned my cottage without seeing the interior. He advised the Allstate to not insure my place, which had just been renovated. The veranda was scheduled for the following year. So Allstate cancelled my insurance which was due to expire and never notified me. I had a hard time to get insurance and when I did, it cost me approx. $700. More per year for a seasonal (6 mo.) Cottage worth less than $100,000. We are NOT in Good hands with Allstate
