Do not believe in Mental Healthy

by Christine on Oct 18, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

We recently switched our benefits from Greensheild to Canada Life. The plan was supposed to be the same as Greenshields. Over a month ago I submitted a claim for my session with my Psychotherapist. Someone I have developed a trusting relationship with over the past 4 months. My relationship with her is very important and the first Therapist I have connected with after trying 3 others. I cannot afford 100.00 dollar sessions a month on my own (blows my mind places believe $500.00 a year is enough).

I received a decline in coverage because she is a psychotherapist. Apparently, Canada Life only recognizes psychologists and social workers. I am absolutely mortified they have narrowed Mental Health down to only two types of practitioners. Psychotherapists are registered and extremely effective.

Canada Life does not believe in the importance of Mental Health if they are willing to only accept two types of practitioners. Fear not, they will cover it up by offering broad mental health articles that do not relate to you or your needs at all because according to them, everybody is the same.

Declined a claim EVEN after calling in and verifying that it would be covered.

by Fruss Trated on Oct 14, 2022

My plan covers "Psychotherapy".
I called in advance because I wanted to check that this particular Psychotherapist would be covered. They confirmed that she was, after checking her credentials in their system.

After 4 weeks (and over $1000) spent on this service, I finally found out my first claim was rejected.

I phoned to ask why and they couldn't answer. I asked to speak to the adjuster, and they said they have no way of contacting them. They are claiming that a "CCC" (Canadian Clinical Counselor) is not covered, despite this being the official designation for psychotherapists. There is no such thing as a "Certified Psychotherapist" - the CCC literally IS that designation, issued by the governing body in Canada (CCPA).

Unbelievably frustrating. Hopefully, they'll correct their mistake but it shouldn't be this painful to actually have your insurance covered.

What an absolute crock.

Awful

I had a large medical expense upcoming. It took hours to figure out whether my plan even covered it. It took nearly a month to complete a pre-assessment because they wanted extra documentation and didn't let me know they wanted it; I had to call (and wait 2 hours on the line) and ask why it was taking so long. The pre-assessment was approved. The claim took 3 weeks to process and was denied for reasons I wasn't, at any point, told would be an issue, even when I asked an agent over the phone if it would be an issue. I appealed and it was still denied. I'm considering talking to a lawyer.

Poor customer support / Bizarre update in online

by Srini on Apr 8, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

Hi,
I submitted a claim on 11th Feb 2022. Sent 4 reminder emails till today, finally they responded as declined, no reason and bizarre communication why it is declined not mentioned in the email, if we call after 30 minutes of waiting in the line they do not care and transfers from one person to another.
Please improve the response time via phone.
Please improve the web interface, it's hard to find why it is declined.
I strongly recommend not to buy this insurance. Waste of time, there is no importance to customer's time.

Got denied right away because of my mental health history. Pretty sick in my opinion that they will discriminate against disabilities. Extremely disappointing and frustrating and not impressed at all!!!!

Terrible customer service, sub-par app

by Jason on Dec 9, 2021
2 out of 5 stars

The 'Customer Service' that they offer (if you want to call it that) is terrible. Wait in a queue for over an hour, finally get a hold of someone who is clearly not trained properly. Then get COLD transferred 2 times and finally hung upon. No callbacks. You know you hung up on me.. why not simply call back? Because they don't care. That's why.
All of this because I was denied ortho coverage for my child because "it is not part of my plan". Yes, it is. My coworker who has the same employer-provided coverage had the same thing happen to him. They are just trying to weasel their way out of paying us the benefit.
And don't even get me started on their app which took me 6 times to successfully file the claim in the first place.
If you have the option to get insurance through someone else - do it!

Did you know that if you are a 30-year old male, a term life insurance policy for 20 years with coverage of $200,000 will cost you around $19/month? Getting your term life insurance quote today will allow you to benefit from a great rate.

Zero stars is the best I would like to give

Don't use this company. They promise everything. Deliver nothing. When you try to claim. You'll be denied over and over again. For every excuse. I've had disability insurance. Accident. Insurance and other policies. That. When it became disabled. They denied it. Even though my doctor and the Canadian government. Say I am. This is a scamming company. Do not waste your money. You'll get better coverage by putting your premium in a bank account. At least you'll have more than they promise. They are a total rip-off.

Don't expect to be covered

by Josh Ruiiter on Oct 19, 2021

Horrible customer services, won't do direct deposit after giving bank information.
Don't expect to be covered, I was looking forward to get my teeth fixed but was denied because they were like that before I started paying for benefits. So make sure your teeth are perfect to be covered!

Do not use them!

by Cindy Schaaf on Sep 27, 2021

In the two years that my company has been using this provider, it has been a complete run around on every single attempt on my part to actually make a claim. They reject you with no explanation and take 3-4 months to even assess a claim at all. I am only leaving them one star because I can't leave zero. They want you to pay your premiums but have ZERO intention of ever paying out for a claim. They expect me to provide a letter from the Alberta Government stating that they do not cover chiropractor care. NO ONE in Alberta gets such coverage via the Alberta government. This policy is intentionally obtuse in an effort to block their laughing low coverage amount of $20 per visit. I will say it again.. do NOT use Canada Life.

Did you know there is a 35% chance of developing a critical illness before you are 65 and 65%-70% chance before you turn 81? That means getting a critical illness insurance quote is no less important than getting life insurance. Your choice.

Misleading

I had to just through hoops but I didn't even get reimbursed for my orthotics when my plan said they would be covered...
