Beware of this insurance company, they will charge you 3 months premium, if you cancel the policy...
Be aware, that they will charge for a policy right away, but if you changed your mind and asked to cancel before the policy is even in effect they will try to keep the payment. I would not trust them with claim handling.
They will try to mislead you with a $5000 deductible which makes hardly any difference to a $1000 deductible in your monthly payment. Lots of things that are included at other insurance places are "extras" here. It's easy to get in contact with someone but making a claim is ridiculous and they will completely screw you over. No good neighbour policy as the damage that happened to or property is from a neighbour. I used to recommend square for being affordable but now I'm cancelling and will never recommend again. Buyer beware.
I am currently thinking to move away from TD Insurance where I pay over $65 / month for my townhouse insurance policy without sewer backup coverage. So I checked Square One Insurance to see if their price is competitive. The online quoting was simple, easy-to-use though a bit long. It was very helpful that at the end one can go through all additional options such as insuring special home items, earthquake coverage etc. For example I added an extra option to protect my fiancee's ring which might not be covered under my current policy. At the end I landed at $34/month including all extra coverage I wanted. So now I am thinking to switch from TD Insurance but I need to check first if my TD auto insurance rate would go up (I have a bundle of home and auto insurance with them). In any case, the price that I got with Square One Insurance is significantly lower than with my current insurer. It would be interesting to know if anybody had a claim experience with them?
Customer service is incompetent.
We have had claim-free insurance for well over a decade and recently sold our home.
Due to a misunderstanding on the new insurance form, a customer service agent said we "misrepresented" on our form (because we are staying in temporary accommodation while renos happen) and canceled the insurance which wasn't even active yet.
And now that we have a "cancellation", they either won't give us insurance at all or want to charge us to get "special" insurance that costs way more since we are a "risk". Total incompetence. No ability to address anything but the most basic circumstances. I can't imagine how useless they would be in a claims situation.
