I’ve never had a claim before but after recent tornado damage, I found out what a good insurance company is all about. Several neighbours were still waiting for their insurance companies to respond to their calls and I had a cheque in hand that covered all of my loss. The adjuster came by the same day as the tornado (without being called) just to check on the damage. When I put in a claim a week later, he was back within a day. He gave me a very fair estimate and when I accepted, he wrote a cheque on the spot. Good insurance is a lot more than cheap rates!!
It took over 2 months of phone calls to my insurance broker before Gore got my new address correct. I went in person on my house closing date with my signed insurance cancellation and my new address printed on paper and handed both personally to the receptionist at the brokers. I waited while she phoned my agent and listened to her give the new address. I waited while she input the address into her computer.
I then waited over 2 months for a rebate. I paid $400+ for 22 days of property insurance. That is over 30% of the yearly premium. I have 3 times requested a detailed explanation of the charges, and to date have not received it.
It also took the same amount of time for them to process a new pink insurance slip with my new address for my auto insurance. Then they sent it to an incorrect address.
They have had no problem processing my payments for both home & auto insurance over the past 13 years, during which time I have never made a claim.
I have also switched my auto insurance away from them. I have received superior coverage from another insurance company for 60% of what Gore was charging me. I will not be using Gore Mutual for any insurance needs in the future.
Be prepared to get a "kick in the ass" on your way out the door. And make sure you keep your original policy even if it's from 12 years ago (as was mine). Their renewal docs are only 2 pages and when you need to cancel (ie: you sell your home) - you will be charged a premium! I have never experienced this with any other Insurance Company. They are very quick to throw you into collections over $100 owing, even if you've paid your policy in FULL EVERY YEAR for 12 years. My dispute over the $100 was from the short-rate cancellation table which, as I said, was attached to the original policy and NEVER with any renewals or noted on the page where I signed to cancel the policy. There is a total lack of disclosure from this company. I ended up paying the $100+/- owing on this policy because I did not want it to affect my credit bureau, but still feel like I shouldn't have had to!
I just fired Gore Mutual because they seem to think they can withdraw any amount of my bank account as they like! I was quoted $175 a month for my home insurance and every month they take out $225. I have always corresponded with them via emails which they now go unanswered! I now have insurance with another company and now pay $118 a month. This company is untrustworthy! Avoid them as much as you avoid catching a bad virus!
Total loss home fire claim, our family lost everything, literally had shirts on our backs and not even shoes on our feet. 20 months and still no finished house or contents coverage... 10 months behind on rent reimbursements ...no answers no communication until lawyers are involved ...the worst company in the marketplace! DO NOT USE GORE MUTUAL for anything!
So we have a leak in the copper piping in the basement under the water heater. We find out now that our city has put an additive in our water is its eroding the older copper pipes. Nothing has leaked through yet. However regardless of the reasoning of why the pipes leaked. Regardless of the reason for the leaking pipes, we find out the Gore mutual does not cover this in any way. If your basement floods out they will cover damaged items but not the work to fix the problem. Seriously? So now from my understanding, we have to have the floor jackhammered up, the piping replaced at our own cost. This is in the thousands. Other insurance policies cover this. Shame on you Gore Mutual. This is critical stuff.
I just got off a call with the adjuster assigned to me. What an unfortunate person to be in a role that is supposed to reassure you when your life is upended to need a claim. When asked a question about how the approval process works, her reply is "what do you want from me"? Do not use this company if you can avoid it - save yourself the headache and heartache.
20 years claim-free. A big storm blew in and demolished one of our buildings. First, they say - no problem we had lots of coverage and that if we made the claim our insurance would go up (high premiums to begin with). Well, we expected that. The next week, when they never told us when an adjuster was supposed to come it was then they told us we weren't covered! Cancelled them! Went somewhere else!
Canadians pay, on average, approximately $20 per month in tenants insurance. Do you rent or plan to rent a property and want to reduce insurance costs? We will help you get a cheap tenant insurance quote today.
My elderly father who no longer drives cancelled his auto insurance with this company. The multi-line discount he was initially given to have both house and auto was 15%; when his auto was removed his home insurance went up 30%!!!! We enquired about this and were told that we had to live with it, and if we cancelled early in the policy we would lose even more money. This is highway robbery!!! We will not be insured by this Gore Insurance going forward. Buyer beware. Zero stars for this one.

I've had Gore Mutual for over 40 years my very first claim since I started with them when I bought this house, I had a fire here 8 months ago and still I'm waiting to get a home to stay in. I have no heat, they promised me food and lodging - nothing. I hope you consider this if you had a family where will you live????? I'm homeless.
