Premium Increase 30.2%

Belairderect is really bad.
My building value just increases 5.8%, but Belairdirect increases my premium 30.2%. The customer service is don't give you reason for why the premium increase so much. The attitude of the representative is rude. They don't care if you stay with them or not, they just want to steal your money.

Belairdirect's rates are WILD!

I have been with the company for over 15 years. From 2013 to 2017 my premium has increased 112% and I've NEVER had a claim and the coverage has remained essentially the SAME!
WOW! I can only wish my salary would go up that much.
Thieves.

Unprofessional

I enjoyed 30% discount on home insurance because I was Belair Employee. But when I was renewing, given that I was no longer their employee, they wanted to increase my home insurance by more than a double. So, it was going to jump from 741$ annually to over 1900$. They had 2 explanation points. One that I was no longer working at Belair and the second is that there is a pub on the ground floor of my building while I live on the 15th floor. I guess, using their logic, the whole building is supposed to have their insurance double, especially the ones on the lower floors given their "imminent" exposure to the bar scene LOL. FRAUD! I can't believe I was part of this fraud! I would not open my mouth about how bad they pay, if ever...

Premium hikes /no explanation

I have been with Belair for some 20 years and have always trusted them to be fair and reasonably prices, however, the last 4 yeas or so, I have been battling cancer and have not paid attention to my policies until this week when I took out my Belair envelope to check the Home insurance policy in order to claim on my income tax returns for 2015. Shocked I notices my premium had gone up some $500 for no reason, no claims ever or anything that could explain this hike. I looked further and noticed that a $250 hike was applied last year and so on. What to do, I called and tried to get some reasoning behind this unacceptable hike of close to $800 in 2 years with no claims and the agent had no explanation other than , well we must have had claims that justify the races, I threatened to cancell my policy and all he could do was quote me the penalty for cancelling 4 months in advance. I lost it and insisted on speaking with a manager as I felt I had been ripped of for the last 3 years. I got quotes from Wawanesa for the identical coverage and better for cars and home as policy with Belair for some $1300 cheaper I want to sue them actually for the overpayment of premiums for the past 3-4 years. Don't fall for their 2 years plans because any little change and you think you are paying less because your monthly payment has gone down but that is only because they recalculate your monthly payments on the balance remaining at the time of the changes . We have been bamboozelled by this 2 year policy for many years, but no more!!! Get out shop around there are many other reputable companies with much better rates out there. I am gone and glad to be saving big bucks!!!!

Bad company practices

My home policy was with Trafalgar which ended up selling some of their customer base to Belairdirect. When I reviewed the new policy it had increased by 10% in cost and several services had been removed; Water Damage coverage and Loyalty Privileges such as disappearing deductible, home assist, etc.. When I complained I was told by a manager that they would reinstate the water damage if it was covered on the original policy but the other services they did not offer. A month later I received a water damage premium for and additional $180. Again I complained but they would not accept a copy of my original policy and only made excuses so that manager would not stand by his original commitment. I would not recommend Belairdirect as your insurer you will not be saving money up front and if the management is anything like I experienced you may be holding a big bill in the end.

Very good service, competitive prices

I was very pleased with with my Belairdirect experience. It was a very quick turnaround to get pricing for me and they followed up as promised. I trusted the brand and the overall experience was very good. The price was comparable if not better than the other two companies I called.

I've had insurance with this Company for several years, & this year my premium spiked. The most annoying thing was a pathetic brochure on "Climate Change" ( they used to call this "global warming", untill they found the Globe cooling). Anyway they were using this idiotic pitch for a reason to raise rates. I called another Company & saved $450 bucks with increased coverage.

House Insurnace Gouging

by Marty on Oct 14, 2014

I got an email telling me my car insurance came down $101, they didn't send me an email telling me my home insurance went up $120 and they have increased the deductible to $1000 from $500, I have never had a claim EVER on my house or car, they should not be allowed to change deductibles without consent , they offered to put the deductible back to $500 for another $40. They are also charging interest if you use the monthly payment plan,,, they did not do that before!!! I am not amused, I look at insurance companies as licensed thieves!!

Bad attitude

We had Belair home insurance for a couple of years. Then I noticed that from one month to another the automatic monthly withdrawal went up by more than $50.
I contacted them to find out why, and they told me that it was the renewal of the policy, and that they had sent all the paperwork advising me of the terms and conditions well in advance. At this point the tone is very severe.
When I pointed out that no such document had arrived to me, she ask me whether I was sure and not have missed it, with a tone insinuating that I was lying and that she knew it. After repeating several times that I had not seen such papers, that I check my mail religiously, and that I had never agreed to such increase, she agrees to check when/where the paperwork was sent. Comes back after a couple of minutes and states triumphantly how the paperwork was sent about 6 weeks prior, I say I have not seen such thing. Then she reads out the address, and I pointed out that I did not live at that address. I said that it did not matter anyways, I wanted to cancel this policy that I had never agreed to in first place, due to how I had been treated.
She became obviously angry and said that I still faced a more than $300 cancellation fee. I told her that it was impossible to have me bound to something I never accepted, that they had made the mistake. She insisted, and tired of being bullied on the phone for so long, I told her that I did not care anymore, I was cancelling it, fee or no fee, and that if there was a fee I would easily recuperate it in a few months with the lower offer from the competitor.

There were no more withdrawals, and I never got the fee in the end.

I have friends that say they are very happy with them. I was happy till this incident (but really, you're always happy while you are paying them and have no claims/issues). They have lost me as a customer forevermore, every year when I shop around I avoid them, because if they disputed something so silly as sending something to the wrong address, how will they be if I have a claim?. I got a quote from Intact and after finding out that they are related to Belair I automatically discarded it (it was not great anyways).

Are you a condo unit tenant? Remember that neither your condominium corporations' policy nor your landlord's insurance policy protects you as a tenant (3rd part liability, contents, etc.). If you do not have your own insurance policy, get your condominium insurance quote today.

Belair all about money

I had been with Belair for over 20 years. My daughter bought her first house, and it is a fixer upper. Explained in detail to Belair about the fixing up and schedule, and they insured the home. Two months after moving in, my daughter received a call stating she was being cancelled in 48 hours. Someone had driven by and seen a wood burning stove chimney and a bad roof. The stove had been removed the day she moved in as the insurance representative had been told, and the roofer was scheduled to start the following week. If the winter had been shorter, the roof would have been done. Belair refused to accept any of this, and my daughter ended up having to find a new insurance company within a day. Because of the roof, she had to get high risk insurance, which was LESS EXPENSIVE than Belair. I have since cancelled my Belair insurance, and would never recommend them to anyone. Hard to believe that high risk insurance is less expensive than a Belair rate for a family that had been a customer for so many decades. Do NOT choose Belair. They will not be there when you need them.
