Horrible customer service/Management team lies

by Rather Not on Jul 10, 2024
1 out of 5 stars

We had a hail claim from 2023 and They sent an adjuster out to check on our damage. They said we didn’t have any hail damage in our roof, minimal damage in siding, little damage on hot tub cover and no other damage. My son was up on the roof and took pictures, there was damage. Had two roofing companies come out and both stated there was damage and 80% of the houses on our block got their complete roofs redone. We have huge cracks and holes in our siding and hot tub cover, pits in our deck and fencing that took chips out of the wood and missing stain, and a roofer took pictures and circled all the points of impact on our roof. They said the guy who did our inspection was let go, and we would get another inspector to come out and re-inspect it. When we got it re-inspected, it turned out to be the same guy as last time. This time he said there was some damage and would cover 1 bundle of shingles. They sent me an email basically stating they were doing me a favor by inspecting it again. The manager would not do anything. They said we would have to get a HAAG roofer out to complete an inspection. Our house is 10 yrs old, and houses built less than that got complete roofs done. Horrible company to deal with, rude, disrespectful and incompetent to what they do.

The epitome of "bad faith" insurance

Too much to tell about the misery this company put me through. Had a major leak, and they avoided calling me back for months at a time. Sent out 2 absolutely unqualified adjusters on 2 separate occasions, got the run around for 8 hellish months, meanwhile they charged me for a claim that was ultimately refused after making me wait and watch all the damage being done to my house.

Very slow in processing the transaction

by Fidel Cabacungan on Mar 13, 2024

It took 3 months before I got my settlement.
I needed that claim money to replace the lost items, this are essential personal appliances and I have to suffer for an error cause by my insurance adjuster.
I will make sure to close my policy with this company.
Very disappointed and dissatisfied.

Horrible to deal with

by Linda Pickering on Nov 12, 2023

Wawanesa has been absolutely terrible to deal with. I made a claim in May 2023 and it is still unresolved as of November 2023. They refuse to give me back what I had in the first place. I have been dealing with different departments for the last 6 months. I finally ended up dealing with their Ombudsman which proved not helpful at all. I have had my house insurance with them for 11 years and got absolute zero satisfaction when I tried to make a claim.

Would not tell us what our policy covered without a penalty

We were deciding whether or not to claim approx $3K of house damage on insurance. The damage was an accident on our part (tree felling gone wrong) so we wanted to know if our coverage for this incident would even be valid for anything other than an act of god. Our broker wasn't sure about this so directed us to contact Wawanesa. At first, Wawanesa wouldn't even take our call and directed us to go through the broker. After some back and forth Wawanesa finally agreed to talk to us but insisted that they could only answer if a claim was filed and an adjuster investigated. We simply wanted to know if our tree damage coverage extended beyond the act of god or not. We were also advised that, whether we actioned the claim or not, filing would count as a claim made and would result in a premium increase. So they wouldn't advise us on coverage details unless we opened a claim and incurred a penalty even if we chose not to claim!!! This was outrageous so we opted to do repairs out of pocket, so much for having insurance as a safety net or even getting information on the coverage you've been paying for for years!
Will never deal with Wawanesa again.

Don't waste your money

This company has created 3 NSF fees in my bank and has not called me once. Most unprofessional business I've ever dealt with. And they know I'm in poverty and in housing but keep trying to charge my account outside of the arranged date without any communication.

Not as cheap as you may think

In 2021 had a call saying they would be sending someone out to inspect my house and property for insurance purposes I complied and let them do their thing and yes the house was inspected when we purchased it although that was many years ago now and keep in mind we have not had a claim in more than 17 years we have been with them. We renewed our policies and had not been notified anything of this till almost a year later when we were called and were told we would have to do some changes and reno’s to comply or they could refuse insurance coverage we have one year to complete these changes and have had some quotes on some of the things and we are already well over 10 000 in work I find this very unacceptable given Covid. We are finding it hard to find contractors and order materials that can commit within the year timeframe. Just so you know I am a particular person and would not let things get to decrepitude. We were asked to replace the roof cause one side shingles were starting to curl (not cheap), get someone to clean and inspect the wood stove chimney at our expense even though I have cleaned it (almost $1000), put up a lockable fence around our trampoline. So, neighbours, kids can’t come and get hurt on it (we live in the country and the closest neighbour is 2 miles away) what I’m trying to say is they have been relatively affordable for rates but it looks like in the long run they have been the most expensive I would not recommend I will definitely be switching.

"Scam Alert"

by CeeBee on Mar 25, 2022

My home was insured with Wawanesa Insurance for 28 years. My claim was initially approved in July 2018 and then in Sept. It was denied in 2018. Their 5 Step Concerns and Complaints process was a complete waste of time and I'm livid with them!
All the Department Heads disregarded my valid Concerns and Complaints. Their strategy is Delay Corresponding, Pass on the Apathy because Nobody Cares and they'll be sure to send you on a wild goose chase to waste your time. In January 2020 I began a very extensive study of the Personal Insurance Policy booklet published in May 2017 and found there is no "Inured Perils" for Property Coverage - Coverage A - Dwelling Building, aka Your Home. The Scam is "The Declarations which contain information that is unique to your insurance policy and which indicates the coverages you have purchased" does not provide coverages in the booklet. On the Declarations document under Property Coverage - Coverage A - Dwelling Building it looks like your home is insured for $$$. But in the booklet coverages do not exist. There is however a long list of "Specified Perils" under Section 1 - Loss and Damage Not Insured. I presented all of the proof to the Department Heads that their home insurance coverage is a Scam. It's a shame that Wawanesa Insurance which was founded in 1896 in the village of Wawanesa, Manitoba has sunk to a despicable level, scamming so many people with a false sense of home insurance coverages. It makes me Roar to Say Shame On Them!!!

Run!!!

A pipe broke under my house and these awful people didn’t want to cover it. I had to put a public adjuster and only after 1 year as 2 months got they to paid for it. Then a tenant that we had upstairs damaged a little hose/pipe from the dishwasher and didn’t tell us for a week and so we had water damage on most parts of the kitchen and down to our garage. They tried to not cover again but after 3 weeks of talking back and forth and we reminding them about a public adjuster they decided to covered it. Now we received a letter from them saying that they will not cover us anymore. No only that, they made our claims public with lies for other insurance companies see it and make it difficult for us to find another insurance.
So if you are looking for home insurance wawanesa is NOT A HOME INSURANCE OR THEY DON’T UNDERSTAND WHAT INSURANCE IS FOR!
Scammers!!!!
I absolutely don’t recommend this business!

Are you a condo unit tenant? Remember that neither your condominium corporations' policy nor your landlord's insurance policy protects you as a tenant (3rd part liability, contents, etc.). If you do not have your own insurance policy, get your condominium insurance quote today.

They send their own contractors

by Rodolfo Casaldarnos on Aug 8, 2021
1.3 out of 5 stars

They send their own contractor to lower the cost of the claim patching a do poor repair then the contractor comes to make you sign the contract for the work and he never shows up again. The insurance company sends the cheque to you with your deductible but you will not have anymore hail insurance they treat it as a settlement and your house is not repaired! Run from this company!
