So we had a flood in our house from a toilet upstairs in the end of August.
It is now December and I am still waiting for my house to be fixed :(
Also when I complained about the workmanship my adjuster said that there was a clause in my insurance that prevented the workers from fixing the house! The walls are all crooked and they will only replace the countertop in the kitchen that was damaged not the whole counter top as the countertop that was damaged was the breakfast bar. And of course I could not find an absolute match so now I will have miss matched counters! Worst company ever for customer service as I can not actually speak to them - I have to go through the adjuster!
Also when the claim was first filed they tried to tell me it was a ground water claim where I would only get $10,000 not the full value of what it should have been - had to fight for that!
We had flood since middle last year and the personal insurance haven't completed our claims up till today. The Adjuster is terrible and the worst I have ever seen. Flood is not what anyone want to experience and aside the trauma and the stress from that, working with this useless adjuster assigned our file is the worst thing and the worst person anyone can have. Since years we have been with personal insurance, this is our first claim and I must say, it is a terrible experience. Up until this moment, our claim has not been concluded and our adjuster available. Communication with this adjuster is terrible and frustrating. We called several times and left messages but she hadly return our calls. We sent email and no response. Even when she promised to call or send email, that didn't happen. She doesn't care what we are experiencing as a family. No empathy and I must say that is indeed inhumane. To worsen the experience, they have increased our premium since 3 months ago without completing our claim. I hope someone with professional ethics and good human relational skills can reach out to us. This is new year,we want to move past all this nonsense and get back to our normal life as a busy family.
Thanks.
I filed a claim with The Personal Insurance Company recently (fall 2021) for compensation on the loss of rent during the period our condo was damaged and was repeatedly suffering from grey-water backups into the kitchen sink and, on two separate occasions, into our unit, a situation that made the condo unfit to live in for almost four months. The floors, the walls, the kitchen cabinets were all impacted and had to be dried up, disinfected, partially removed and finally replaced. I sent names and contact information, videos, pictures, documents, the assessments made by the building insurer etc. The Personal Insurance gave me the longest and most exhausting and exhaustive runaround in the book and to this day, they have only very reluctantly compensated me for about 1/4 of my rental losses. Their definition of an unfit to live property doesn't match that of the province they are headquartered in and are serving. They say, we only compensate the property owner during the repair time, not while the property is damaged, unfit, unsanitary, unsafe and only partially usable (in this case the property was only fit for the storage of the furniture, occasional stay overnight, and the use of the bathroom and laundry facilities.) Our tenants spent most of this period staying with family and friends and coming to the condo when absolutely necessary. To compensate them for this inconvenience, I gave them a discount equal to half their rent. I also, gave them the option to break their lease and leave altogether as we didn't know when the property would be repaired since the cause of the damage had to be found and fixed before any repairs could take place within our unit. They chose the rental discount hoping that the repairs would take place soon. I thought the Personal Insurance would easily compensate me for this very straightforward case of loss of rent, minus my deductible, and as long as it didn't pass my total rental loss compensation limit stated in my insurance contract. That was not the case, and the two claims adjusters, and the one complaints division agent with whom I followed up on my claim, all found every possible way to refuse to provide full compensation for the rental losses I have incurred by following the provincial rules pertaining to compensation to tenants when the property is damaged and is inferior to what was promised in the rental contract.
This is quite sad to discover since I have been a very happy client of The Personal for decades, generally due to their respective customer service and quick handling of the few small claims my family has had with them in the past. But, I guess things have changed, and this company doesn't seem to respect its rental home insurance policy and its written promises as it ought to. I hope The Personal Insurance executives will read my comments and try to return their company to what it used to be in the past, a decent and reliable insurance company that was reflective of the clients they're serving: hardworking teachers and university instructors among others.
Unacceptable in all facets of claim! Repair work done twice. Sloppy packing broke many items
Impossible to contact and get help. Took me almost a month to get help for a flood the first time denied claim said they didn’t but approved the same claim later? When had concerns about anything you’ll never get past the contracted adjuster as they seem to be the gatekeepers of the company. They shared non-essential personal information with other agencies and anything they provide will be done from an office 1000s away by contracted companies whom if you have any problems with will be your problems, not the Personal's or any of their partners in profit. Run now or cancel your policies while you can
I had a heavy water leakage in my house due to rain. I called Personals Insurance. They sent a guy who went on the roof and came back with some pictures of the roof saying they will bring drying equipment. I called the next day as two rooms were soaking wet and with every rainwater dripped in. The guy sent by Personal said he doesn't have drying equipment and that he will call when he has it. I called multiple times but with the same reply. I had to buy heavy dehumidifiers and fans to dry up my house. I then hired a roofer to fix my roof. There was no reply for exactly two weeks from Personal's contractor. After two weeks when the house was completely dried and the roof was fixed the person called saying he is bringing drying equipment. This was ridiculous… I told him I couldn't keep house wet for two weeks for him to find drying equipment and I did not make a claim. Now I got a call from Personal saying I have to pay the deductible of $500 because I did not make a claim and I have to pay the deductible. Please be aware ...your house can fall dawn and this company will have not to do anything but you will pay the deductible. It is total FRAUD !!!
I have been a customer of the Personal Insurance company for almost a decade now. I am a member of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), and this insurance company advertises itself to the CAF community that it takes extra care of the CAF members. I had a leak into the basement wall from the storm drain located in the backyard at the basement window. That leak led to the formation of mould on the walls in the basement just under that window. I informed the company upon the discovery on 8 November 2018 by speaking with an adjuster. She informed me that they don't cover mould if the cause of the problem was " a leak from the foundation in the basement". The next day she sent an estimator who took pictures of the mould on the wall and told my wife that the cause of the mould was "a leak from the storm drain by the basement window" (Up until that point we didn't know the cause of the mould). And that mould can form within 24-48 hours. We use the basement as our living room, and before that date, we didn't notice any mould. The estimator delayed his report for a long time due to some family problems according to his supervisor. On the 29 Nov 2018, the adjuster called us back informing us that the Personal Insurance company won't cover the claim because, according to the estimator, the mould has been there for far too long, and that we didn't report it when it initially was formed. There was no official report written on the problem, and the adjustor only looked at the pictures taken of the mould and judged that the mould existed there for a long time.
Broken water pipe and Insurance claim. Called the Personal regarding a damage to water pipe coming into the basement, stated water was turned off and no water damage. No one contacted back for weeks, the adjuster came out and no further contact. The second adjuster called and was told we already have an adjuster and she became angry and being rude to me. Tried to follow up my claim as water shut off for almost 2 months and winter is coming at the end of October. States no coverage for plumbing damage, just water damage, which I had stated when calling about a claim. No loss of Rental income due to waiting for the claim, or for no water while waiting for the claim to be denied although I have loss of rental insurance but only will claim. Worst company ever. DO NOT EVER USE THIS COMPANY! Will be reporting to the Better Business Bureau. Would give 0 stars if allowed. Have insurance on this house for 30 years, no claims till now.
My basement is flooded for 13 days today. No adjuster visited it yet even after leaving numerous vm & email. No one should go through this horrible experience after paying to them all these money. No excuse for this kind of irresponsibility.

been insured with the personal for 25 years. home and 2 automobiles.Had water damage from a copper pipe fitting that dripped behind a wall and down through the finished basement ceiling onto the carpeted floor. called the personal thinking that after all these years of not one claim against my policy and faithful on time payment the would help me out. Wrong!!! they send out an adjuster with a man from an emergency restoration clean up company, take some pictures and tell me not to do anything because there could be mold now. they tell me to tarp off the room until the so called mold can be removed by specialists. 1 week goes by no help from the personal. 2 weeks go by no help from the personal. In the third week they finally actually take my call just to find out they are denying my claim because in their opinion I should have done my due diligence and thoroughly inspected my home to ensure all things are in good working order on a daily basis. they told me to contact the plumber from 25 years ago a make a claim against him. there was never any mold when the adjuster made the site visit but after 3 weeks of taking his advice of tarping off the room mold had set in. mentioned this to the adjuster but he didn't care. also advised him that over the last quarter century I have probably paid them in access of $50,000 with no claims, again he didn't care. very disappointed with this company as I felt I was a faithful customer. My lawyer said I could make a case about the miss directed advice about the mold but this meant spending more money, repairing the damage to my home cost enough.Do yourself a favor and get quotes elsewhere. they are only in it to take your money , not to help you.
