Refuse to pay claim

by Joel F on Jul 24, 2022
1.5 out of 5 stars

I was a long-term customer and got a water leak on my natural gas tank. Originally, they said they will pay. Then they refuse, mentioning that no insurance company will pay for a slow leak. I switch companies and the new one is paying for this type of damage. I lost $5000 in repairs and also 800x7years of payment with them. Please make sure you read all reviews before going with them.

Zero help, now out $10K

by sarah feret on Mar 25, 2021

Had to make a claim due to a loss assessment at my condo less than a month after moving in. When I purchased my insurance I specifically noted I wanted protection from my condo board's reserve fund in case of any type of emergency. Was assured I would be covered.

When I did make the claim, feeling good about myself for opting for the more expensive coverage and peace of mind - was told flat out that because it's a maintenance issue, it will not be covered. Even though it's a safety hazard... even though it's a common element... even though I specifically asked to be protected from this situation.

The person "helping" me, did nothing.
Awful company, awful bank, terrible services, and bad customer service.

Policy coverage was deceiving

by Truth teller on Jul 9, 2024

I purchased an “enhanced” home insurance coverage with “extended” water damage. I never had a claim before. Due to heavy rains, water entered into the basement causing molds. TD sent their contractor from First Onsite to conspire with them as he is getting paid by TD. They denied my claim due to “gradual” damage, which is their excuse for every claim to escape from paying for damages. TD is a public company, so I got rid of my shares right away due to their unethical business practices. No wonder they are being investigated for money laundering. Do not use TD for anything. Evidently it was not gradual, as we sleep and work in the basement. They are deceitful. I have never seen the exclusion items, which essentially was a tactic to never pay for damages prior to purchasing home and car insurance from them.

Are you a condo unit tenant? Remember that neither your condominium corporations' policy nor your landlord's insurance policy protects you as a tenant (3rd part liability, contents, etc.). If you do not have your own insurance policy, get your condominium insurance quote today.

TD home insurance disappointing experience

by Michael Anderson on Mar 9, 2024

Beware if in western Canada. They assign you to a rep in Halifax. Time zone makes it difficult to connect. Incredibly poor service. They used the cheapest contractor who made things worse with their work. When I filed a complaint about the poor service they handed the complaint to the person who provided the poor service. She did not care at all. TDI does not care at all. I ended up using my own contractor to do rework.

worst customer service ever

Please don't waste your money on this home insurance company. They take your money and when you file for a claim, they will be your worst nightmare. They won't help at all. Their goal is to try whatever fraudulent way to not help and they certainly will not update you. Leave you waiting for months. I had excellent service with other insurance and I will go back to them.

Condo – water damage claim

by Stefan on May 1, 2022
1 out of 5 stars

I waited 4 months and then the claim was rejected. Weekly calls and emails go unanswered and no news from the insurer for the entire period.
They said they don't cover damage caused by moisture in the unit when the damage was clearly caused by the AC unit. The company that replaced and regularly maintains the device - I bought a new unit - confirmed that the damage was caused by the AC unit. The damage on the floor also backs that up. Terrible experience and I need a lawyer now.
