Poor Customer Service.

by Judd 12 on Apr 4, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

Customer for 12 years. No claim ever made. Cancelled policy last year July 2017. Received a letter from Aviva March 30, 2018, indicating I owed for last payment of $162.06 and if not paid in 15 days my account would go to collections. Instead of admitting their mistake, they blamed my banking institution. No attempt was ever made to withdraw for last payment. Placed a stop payment on my account on September 30 as Aviva indicated cancellation was in effect then. In 9 months they didn't contact me to inform me money was owed but yet don't hesitate to threaten me with collections. Payment will be made but not until I report them to the Better Business Bureau. I can't even imagine how they would handle a claim. Thank God I've left them.

Double charging

Beware of this company. I have sold my house and cars in Ontario. Cancelled my policies. Re-instated insurance on a house and a vehicle in PEI. Got a phone call from Aviva that my rates were going up, so I checked my automatic debit payment. To my shock, I discovered that this company was double charging from Ontario account, and now my PEI account. After three hours on the phone, some idiot finally found a problem. He said it will take at least 15 days to get my $1200 back. Great way to treat an old age pensioner.

Bad customer service, not very professional. They cancelled my policy without contacting me ahead of time explaining what the situation was, very disappointed and I don't recommend Aviva insurance to anyone.

Do not go with this insurance

First time home owner and aviva was recommended by our realtor they came up with a huge list of things they wanted done and gave a ridiculous time frame to have it completed. When we couldn't get it done on time they said we would have to be listed under high risk (so increased premiums for years)and theres no other option. I cancelled with aviva because I found a cheaper rate, same coverage and no upgrades were required. They continued to take the high risk payment out of my account after cancelling saying I never cancelled and were extremely rude even before I cancelled. I can't imagine dealing with them if I had actually had a claim. Worst customer service ever!

Simply Corrupt and Dishonest

Do I have to write a review for this company ? All the reviews below mine are facts speaking for themselves. Canadian Right to Information Act give me right to know what the reasons and grounds for denial are. Can you explain a bit more? On top, my policy was cancelled without any prior notification and my input, so I am left high and dry For insurance claim was made and like any other, Right from day one the adjuster's attitude was a no-no. Without listening to me, the investigator said in an insulting way "You know I am X-Police Officer". Instead of listening, he tried to pressurize. I said to myself I never missed a payment nor I have mistreated anyone why I am getting oppressive treatment. When content evaluation process came in our absence, he took all our clothing and devices out of the case and spread it on the carpet and floor causing much smoke damage to the all the precious belongings which actually fire would have done. If that's the process you would have followed, you should have better told us so we can deal with in our presence. From that day onwards I have asked adjuster that please inform me who is entering my house so I am prepared. In reply he said we are not liable but we will inform you going forward. That going forward never happened as they are not interested. Within a weeks time after the fire, insurance investigator called us for appointment and we traveled to meet him only to know he was late, my wife was under the stress and I called him that I am waiting for him, only when I left, he called me to say I am here, I told him we left and he was not impressed. Just living outside of town as temporary location, and go to check the property every week almost, only came to know that they have taken the lock away which they have installed earlier, without informing. Believe me, I deal with my customers every day and I never treated them as I have been. I would reach every possible forum to launch complaints how I have been treated and my claim is treated, you pay insurance to secure family and this company left us wandering.

So Disappointed in AVIVA

by Cherry A. on Jun 5, 2016

Last year I had my insurance with CAA (Aviva), really nice company... then they sold out to My Insurance Company Hamilton (still with Aviva).I paid my Auto Insurance in full and because they combined all 3 of my insurance to come due on the day I had to pay the other 2 insured houses with a void cheque each month... everything seemed fine, even got my two 2 renewal house policies... so there didn't seem to be any problems... 'til I received a cancellation notice...no reason given... apparently, they forgot to send me some mysterious form to sign... Sandy W knew right away what had happened and even told me I wasn't at fault, that the mistake was theirs... still no one sent me the unsigned form... then suddenly a lady named Shannon took over and I was given an ultimatum to rush up there in rush hour traffic within 2 1/2 hrs to sign a form that wasn't the original form but for something else... at 69yrs of age, I am not going to endanger my Auto Insurance or my life to sign a form that wasn't the form of their original mistake... made up orriginally by a guy named Deno... I was threatened with cancellation again and would be sorry if I had to start a whole new policy again and at a higher cost... Aviva, you should listen to your faithful clients, not some new company that took over and is goofing up my policies... the stress has been very bad for me... I will accept an apology and activation of my original policies, nothing less... the new company needs to get their act together... thank you for this opportunity to voice my complaint... Cherry A.

What a joke

Cancelled my renewal due to not supporting rental properties anymore, and my husband having a marijuana conviction from 2011. Now, this has created an issue and a red flag for any other insurance companies. They did not send me a letter of cancellation on our primary residence which expired yesterday. I only found out because I received a letter for the other property, expiring Feb 25th. I've never ever paid late or had any issues. I had a 10-years discount with RBC which is why I went with Aviva originally. Now they have me scrabbling and a very stressful time trying to find insurance by the end of the day. Pretty rude.

Not transparent

I have 2 properties and 2 vehicles insured with Aviva (now only 2 vehicles). My renewal for a property was one or two months before my house was set to close and as part of the renewal I mentioned that. I was assured it wouldn’t be an issue and I should just call back to cancel after closing. Long story short, I had to cancel the entire policy and not just the one home. I then was also charged 21% of the entire annual premium, I was automatically billed twice in a month (Oct 7 and Oct 25) and still told I had a balance of $33 owing. 21% if the annual premium for 30ish days of coverage. Their only response was it was included in the package ( which is about 40+ pages) since it covers 4 items. I asked if they planned on doing anything to retain me since I was still a customer. They (paraphrasing) asked if wanted to re-instate my policy to avoid the penalty. And then also “reminded” me that if I cancelled my other vehicle policy I’d be charged another 21%

Claim

by Lisa on Oct 11, 2019

August 2018 I tried to make a claim for my roof leaking. The insurance adjuster denied my claim saying my shingles were too old and told me I could appeal it if I wanted to. We did not appeal it. It was a small job so we did it ourselves. Last month, September 2019, my broker's office calls & says the underwriter has questions about my claim. At first, I had no clue what she was talking about. After some back & forth calls, the questions were about the denied roof claim. They didn't believe I fixed my roof, gave me 2 days to submit pictures. My broker took pics & submitted them. Broker calls me a few days later & tells me my insurance is being cancelled because underwriter says roof wasn't done by a licensed roofer. I was never told that we had to do any of this when the claim was denied. I received registered from Aviva saying my insurance is being cancelled and all the reason says is "underwriting reasons". I pay my premium every month and this was the only claim that I have ever tried to make. I can not believe how I have been treated. I am not pulling all of my vehicles and motorcycles away from Aviva. Absolutely disgusting how they treat a good customer.

Bogus NSF cancellation

So, last year when I was up for renewal, I asked them about the increase in my policy amount. We were able to talk it down to a reasonable amount, mostly by agreeing to a higher deductible. While I was on the phone with them, I asked about paying them over the phone as we were right there. They agreed, took my payment, and we were done... Thing is, the payment was already at the credit card company. So, a month later, I get a letter saying my payment is outstanding! What!? So I call them up in a frenzy, they say, "oops, our bad, you're good fam!" So, I let it go. Fast forward to today, almost a year later, and I get a letter in the mail saying my policy is being cancelled due to an outstanding balance of $0.00. You read that right, $0.00! So, naturally, I am livid. After an hour on the phone, and conversations with 2 representatives and talks of having to start a new policy a full 2 months early, they are able to fix it, and tell me, "oops, our bad, you're good fam!" I'm beside myself right now. Definitely, giving them the boot come renewal time.
