I've had no trouble reaching them, and their auto insurance is competitive, but ...
My property insurance rates increased from $800/yr to $3,700/yr over 12 years, with most years involving a 10-15% increase.
I was able to replace coverage for less than 40% of the current premiums. I had to move my auto insurance too, but no change there.
They insisted on insuring our property for way more than the replacement cost and weren't open to adjustments.
When I called to cancel, they made no attempt to retain my business after I told them how uncompetitive they are.
I feel we've been ripped off at exorbitant rates for years.
I recommend that you review your insurance ASAP if you are covered by them!
We, unfortunately, had our home broken into. An unprofessional adjuster who doesn’t understand anything. They sent a letter with another client's name on it refusing the claim to SIU. The SIU investigator is a far retired cop that should of staid retired. Now lawyers are dealing with TD. Stay away
For the past week, I've been trying to get a hold of an agent to update the status of my home roof. Meloche and Monnex limited insurance coverage on the roof because I couldn't provide them with an exact date they were last replaced (new-to-me home). The wait times are beyond ridiculous. For three days I've been on hold for minimum 2 hours before giving up. Yesterday I got lucky after an hour and a half... and then the guy I spoke with said he needed to find an agent licensed in my province... and then before I could respond I was back on hold for another hour before giving up. That said, when I do speak to someone they are fantastic. I'm pretty happy with the value for money, but I've never had to make a claim before. Please fix this Meloche and Monnex. I've been a loyal customer for 15 years and only recently has this become an issue. I'm starting to look around for a new provider.
Once again rates go up. Trying to get to speak to someone for last 3 days. On hold for over 1 hour before giving up
When the statement for my yearly home insurance arrived early this month, I noticed right away the premium was 10 times higher than last year, (after many years of a stable rate) and being on monthly deductions, I was soon to lose a huge sum. I immediately called, and after a short search, the advisor could not find any reasons in the file, so she moved me up to a higher level. Here the advisor spent quite a while on my case but also could not discern any reason for this huge increase (he suggested that he'd never seen such an instance before). I insisted that if he could not solve the 'error' I wanted to cancel immediately since I was scheduled for a serious operation and would not be able to attend to this for quite a while. He got somewhat hostile but finally agreed to suspend the monthly withdrawal until a reason/solution was found. After several days he called to say things were back to 'normal'... but no reason or apology for this huge 'mistake'. If I had not caught it immediately, I would have been out of pocket huge sums and likely have been in long-term hassles as to getting my money back. Having been with Meloche-Monnex for many years, with no problems, I was shocked and taken aback by their attitude. I still do not know the reasons (system errors?).
Canadians pay, on average, approximately $20 per month in tenants insurance. Do you rent or plan to rent a property and want to reduce insurance costs? We will help you get a cheap tenant insurance quote today.
The only good thing about this company is that customer service answers calls promptly. As a home owner that has never had a claim during 20+ years of home ownership, I have seen my rates increase from $90/mth to $280/mth over the last 6 years. Time to shop around.
we have been with TD Meloche Monnex for many years. we have always had and paid for a comprehensive solution. in the last 5 years premiums have just been rising and they cannot provide any good reasons. some B.S. about being in a high risk zone for sewer backup was one they are trying to get past us. coverage for that has gone from 100,000 to $15,000, while the premium for it has increased 460% in the past 5 years. Rip off artists!!!!!
every year I call and ask why we are being penalized. we have already increased deductibles.
Service is good when you need them, but we cannot continue to allow them to take advantage of us.
I recently reviewed the insurance on 3 properties and they all have increased on average 15% per year over the last 5 years. This increase is not in line with inflation and when questioned I am given the same response that they made a calculating error in their policies causing an disproportionate increase in claims. Furthermore my coverage is decreasing and limits are being set which no longer provide adequate insurance. My sewer backup limit has dropped to $15K from $61K and my premium for this coverage increased $12. Being familiar with the cost of claims I am well aware that $15K will likely only cover the cost of tearing a basement apart and drying it up but leave nothing for restoration or contents. I called to ask why my policy was amended and now under-insured and was told that all policies are now capped at $15K for sewer backup unless I purchase additional insurance. All 3 properties are rated by TDMM as a category 3 risk for sewer backup however the cost to increase coverage from 15K to 50K varies from $35 - $78 per year. They could not answer why the cost for the additional $35K of coverage would vary for properties in the same city, geographical region and risk group.
They also informed me it is my responsibility to know my insurance needs and they can change rates and coverage at any time.
In short I no longer trust TDMM as they are not looking out for me and helping me manage my risk but only care about their risk and their bottom line. If you are not an insurance expert I would stay away from TDMM as their policies are not designed to help you in your time of need.
BTW 10 years insured and never a claim.
I have been with the company for twenty+ years. Now they refuse coverage for above ground water damage because my roof is older than fifty years - yet a tin roof is the best and most long-lasting. Also now limit sewage back-up to $15000.
I have been with TD insurance for many years. Unfortunately, had a very bad experience with home insurance renewal this year. The document was sent and was not properly updated. Staff who answered the call said will send an email to confirm the policy update and never receive an email. Make several calls and waiting time to speak to a person took extremely long (over 60min to 90min).
