Unreasonable wait times

I paid my insurance yearly. When prices increased I changed to an alternate insurance company. I received notices that my insurance would be cancelled due to non-payment - a perfect idea as I did not want to renew. A year later they sent me to collections saying I owed for 2 months of insurance I never requested. Despite repeated calls, the issue was never resolved. This must be how this company makes extra money - charging ex-clientele for services they did not request.
9 years no claims nothing, price of the car and home insurance was going up every year. I found a great broker, and she give me a better deal. 800$ savings between car and home insurance, now TD Insurance. got me on collection agency saying insurance was not cancelled properly. Broker and I did everything they asked for, now we did a 6th-time follow-up call ( this is going on 3 months now) to see what is happening. They told us we didn't include policy number, we did us they asked for policy number as subject, policy number included in the email, and policy number on cancellation note. Today we are sending the 7th email to cancel the insurance policy with ignorant TD. Customer service only can say there is nothing I can do, just send us documents again, and include the policy number.
I don't want to renew with them and call hundreds of times and on hold forever. They mailed me many statements and charge a late fee every time, but I want to cancel with them earlier, but never get connected!!! Ridiculous!
I was with TD Meloche for home/auto/travel etc from 2005 to 2020. I've spent my last two days off trying to cancel my one remaining policy. Collectively I've been on hold for 4 hours and have not yet been able to get through. This company used to provide amazing service - it feels now like the last employee has turned off the lights and walked out.
To anyone looking at home insurance, you may be attracted by their relatively inexpensive rates, and ease in setting up the policy, however, do NOT give this company any of your money. I've been trying to cancel a policy that's 5 years old now, and Meloche told me what I needed to provide over the phone, then I would send the required verbiage and cancellation notice via email, and they would request another document, or me to send something via fax or mail, then claim it wasn't received. In the end, they cancelled the policy but refused to pay back charges for the annual payments that were being taken out of my account. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.... You will probably regret it.

The wait times were common throughout our usage of TD. One time they had a question about my employment, and since we missed the call we called back and waited over an hour. This was strange because when we wanted to sign up they picked up right away-- but wait times happen. My wife and I wanted to change the address when we moved halfway through the policy, so we called and waited four, three, and two hours on consecutive days before giving up. Because our landlord needed proof of insurance, we had to go with another company because we couldn't get through to change it! Now, we are trying to cancel and call periodically for seemingly infinite wait times. Sometimes the company hangs up because they are closed, sometimes we wait for four hours and have to leave the house. The waiting music is unbearable! Now, we have a policy we didn't even want to cancel on an apartment we no longer live in because we haven't been able to get through for two months. I'm frustrated and have no idea what to do at this point.
