Unacceptable service

by Nah on May 3, 2016
1.5 out of 5 stars

I was switching vehicles and called TD to get my insurance switched to my new car. I waited on hold for over 1 hour and 15 minutes. Unacceptable. After I got through to someone, I expressed how important this call was, as I was picking up my new car the next day and needed the insurance papers faxed to my dealership in order to pick up my car. The rep was extremely unhelpful, and did not finish my requests. This resulted in me not being able to get my car when it was supposed to be picked up. I am extremely disappointed and will be switching my insurance with a new company because the service you provided was extremely unprofessional, and unacceptable.

Car Write-off

by Dbone on Apr 29, 2016
4 out of 5 stars

I had my first ever experience with TD insurance in March/April 2016 (after being with them for about 7 years). I have mixed feelings about the process. We purchased the extra "Cost Replacement Solution" for our 2015 vehicle. That vehicle was written off in a not-at-fault accident, and TD provided (over the phone) the reimbursement cost of a new vehicle of the same model and trim level of the car we had. I had already done my research on the cost of a new car, so when it was quoted to me at about $6,000 less than expected I was flabbergasted. After a bit of pressing, I was e-mailed their report they received from our dealership. I was able to see by this we were being cheated by both the dealership and by TD. First, the report shows the cost of the car minus the incentives at the time (which is $3000 off if buying cash). We did not buy the car with cash - we were financing. Incentives for that is $1500 off. Also, for some reason, the salesman at the dealership offered the insurance company the price of the car without the dealer inflation. This is not a price any Joe Blow can walk in off the street and get by the way. Also, we did our own research and the trim level that we had on our car was now rare to find, and there were no colours left of what we wanted. We now had to look at a 2017 model which is even more money.
In the end after trying to get the value back that was equal to the car we just lost, we believe we received a fair deal. But it took a bunch of e-mails and phone calls to get this. All told, we're probably out $2000 on a $27,000 car.
The gentleman we spoke with was a nice enough fellow. I understand that he's trying to get the best deal for TD, but with enough pushing you can get more than the initial quote. Also, I didn't like how pushy TD was about when to return the rental vehicle. I needed a rental until I got a new car, and they were only willing to give me 2 business days. Luckily, we were able to get a new car, and approved for a loan before even paying the other loan off.

Unhelpful Customer Service

by Just a guy with low expectations on Apr 2, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

Let me start by saying that I waited 30 minutes to actually talk to a customer representative (who doesn't have call back service these days). The TD representative I spoke to was impatient, rude and didn't make a modicum of effort to help me out with an issue so minor that it required her to pretend to be polite for 5 minutes. Maybe she had a bad client before me but please don't spread your filth to your other clients. This isn't the first time I have received bad customer service from them. I have no trust TD Meloche Monex because who's to say i will receive any better service when I actually require to make a claim. They are very persistent in taking your money and its a one way street with no benefits. My suggestion would be to look elsewhere for an insurance provider !!

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Ripped off for 9 years!

A 4-cylinder car being intentionally rated as a 6-cylinder car. Letters with ownership sent to their office were never responded. Agents were either playing dumb or giving me run-around for the past 9 years. Request for refund of overcharged premium was also ignored. I urge all existing clients to compare quotes with other insurance companies. You will find a better deal somewhere else!

increase of over $1000!

I was with TD Meloche Monnex for just over a year (house and auto). When I first signed with them I was happy as the rate was the lowest I could find. $205/mth for auto and $98 for house. I got my G licence within this year and expected my rate to decrease since I had no accidents, no tickets, no claims and I got my full G licence. I got my renewals in the mail and I was shocked to see that my auto had increased over $1000 a year. Auto insurance was now $294 and home insurance was hiked up to $118 per year. I called to find out why, thinking this could only be a mistake. The person on the phone told me there was no explanation except maybe all rates had gone up. She tried to keep me as a customer by telling me that if I had winter tires I would get a huge discount. Once she told me what the discount was (a measly $160 a year or something stupid) I laughed. They increased my auto insurance over a year, but would now give me a discount for having winter tires of $168. laughable. I shopped around and found another company that is charging less than when I first started with TD. I was told by one broker that a trick TD uses to get customers is to offer them a much lower rate at first but then on renewal, they increase it to make up for the lower premium they offered you at the beginning. Scammers!

STAY AWAY , FAR AWAY~!!

They were good at first and then I was cancelled because I missed a payment by 1 hour.... 1 HOUR!!

They just want money and apparently they have so many customers in line they dont need your money.

I could understand if I didnt pay my insurance but i did and then for them to cancel me because I was a little late? and have no way of making it up to them... garbage.... don't waste your time with these guys. the Government should step in and put a stop to this monopoly that we have to go through just to want to have insurance.

See all the NEGATIVE reviews??

That is there for a reason, go somewhere else.

Selling one of my cars

by Marto on Mar 24, 2016
1.5 out of 5 stars

I had probably the worst conversation with an agent (Melorie) at about 10.15am today March 24, 2016. I'm considering replacing/selling one of my cars so I called for a quote for the new car and obviously I also called my former insurance provider "The Personal Insurance" and they had far better quotes and extremely friendly service and I felt like I was not being rushed off the call like with TD. It sounded like the TD agent had a customer count target for the day anyway I got agitated with the whole conversation and asked her if I cancelled the car insurance for the car I'm selling today whether that would affect the remaining car (I insure 2 cars and my house with them) She emphatically said yes but could not give me the dollar amount because of "system limitation " she could only estimate the increase (punishment for dropping off one car) at 15%- yikes. I then asked about my home insurance and again TD was significantly higher and with less items covered - I asked about matching and again this was a no but they got me to the retentions department and they knocked off some amount but not much. Knowing that I might also cancel the home insurance when it comes up for renewal I asked how this would affect my only car that would be insured with TD (since it still has a few month on the policy)and again they could not estimate it because of .........you guessed it " system limitation" ......this is disappointing but I have to look out for myself and my pocket .....I think its time to let TD clean up their act. This is sad for a company I truly respect. Other reviews here don't help either but I have a feeling TD may be a few bad apples and they urgently need to improve their systems unless this is a gimmick so as to spring up surprises whenever you want to cancel your policy. Customers should be provided with full information all the time so as to make informed decisions- this is era of transparency.

Terrible customer service

TD sent my renewal and then subsequent cancellation notice to an incorrect address after I moved. They had missed a digit when I called to let them know about the change of address. I didn't notice the payment hadn't come out of my account until they phoned 3.5 months later to check my address and tell me they had cancelled the policy a month ago. Not allowed to pay and renew without a 30-day application process and increased rate. Also tagged with Non-payment on my record. All of this could have been avoided with a phone call.

They suck - first year they keep the rates low and then they jack up the rates-- and even with no claims the rates go up-- and they brokers are self conceited and condescending.

When I came to Canada I had great trouble finding car insurance that was affordable. I was quoted in excess of $3000 per year from many companies …for a second hand car that cost $2500. Finally I got in touch with Meloche Mennox, who happily accepted my 20 years non-claims history from my home country insurance company. Fast forward three years and my car is totalled on HWY 1…not at fault, black ice, walloped by another vehicle also hitting black ice. When I start the processing's I'm told they're sending me a claims form. I wait. And wait. The rental car I was given for 1 week get's returned. It's January and I'm still waiting. Another couple of weeks go by and nothing arrives. I call them and they say it was sent. I wait a few more days. I get angry. I call again. Then they finally communicate and say (matter of factly) it was sent via email. Email? To the wrong address. Anyway, I complete the form (which I had to print out anyway and it gets sent to them. I noticed when the claim is accepted and I get my insurance paid out - after about 8 weeks, the MM had also taken an insurance payment out of my account - after the date they'd accepted the claim and declared it a write-off.

Despite 7 months of calls to try and retrieve this over-payment, and despite every person I spoke with agreeing that this was their mistake - I got nothing. Only empty promises ...and lies upon lies. A paltry sum paid to me for years of loyalty and no claims. Go figure.

Fast forward a year. I also had my house insured by them and my mortgage from them. They hounded me relentlessly to buy more insurance. Every night for months I've get a call at 9pm. I told them about my car insurance fiasco - every single night. When my mortgage and house insurance was due for renewal - I took action with my dollars. Never trust them. Remember how they also refused to pay out after the flood disaster?

By the way …I'm writing this 10 years later. Never forget!!
