Brutal Experience.

I was in a single vehicle accident in the winter time. When I called the claims department of Intact Insurance, first off, no one asked me if I was alright or injured. In case someone that works there actually cares... I'm fine. The representative first started off by saying that any object on the road or the side of the road is 100% avoidable. Which is nonsense! I responded by saying if I didn't hit the hydro poll, I would have gone into a pond and my vehicle would have been submerged and I could have possibly died. The response I got; 'it would have been better than hitting the pole and writing off your car and paying you out'... WHAT! SERIOUSLY! After I cussed the representative out for saying that for a good 15 minutes, it took 3 weeks for them to evaluate my vehicle's condition, only for them to tell me it was a write off (which I already knew because all the airbags deployed). Then another 4 weeks for me to receive my compensated cheque for the car. If I owed Intact money, they would have given me a date to pay it by and if not paid by the selected date, they no doubt would start charging me interest. Why couldn't I do that to them? Charge Intact interest for being unbelievably slow. And now, 5 months later I'm still waiting for my personal belongings from the trunk of my vehicle which Intact apparently mailed out to me in January. I know they never did and I WILL be asking for compensation for my belongings that I believe are long gone now. A while back too, I found out that an Intact rep was giving away my personal payment history to my father via email (which is NONE of his business), not knowing for sure that it's my dad on the other side emailing. There could have easily been someone holding a gun to his head telling him to email Intact about me. Thanks, Intact Insurance, I feel safe with you as a customer... *cough* TRUST ME; I will be leaving Intact Insurance the second that accident is off my record. I'm patient, I can wait 6 years. Let the countdown begin!!

Never return my calls.

Twice I have left voice messages for the claims representative to return my call. A week later, still no response. I did talk to another claims rep to try and get some answers. They gave me the wrong information and so I spent a couple of days trying to figure it out on my own. I will pay more to get better customer service.

Plug-In Monitor Discount

by NoDentsNoTicketsMike on Apr 10, 2017
4 out of 5 stars

There is an issue with the evaluation model used to determine the "potential discount" a driver will get on their auto insurance renewal using the Plug-In device. Here's my story. I had a perfect history and a 25% potential discount showing on my data page from Intact. Then one day, a driver in front of me made a late, unanticipated move to turn right and he hard braked. Even though I was well back, I instinctively applied my brakes. Applying my brakes triggered a "low severity" braking signal to my device. To be clear, this was a reduction in speed only, no screeching rubber or anything like that. Immediately, the Intact website showed I was dropped from getting a full 25% discount to 19%! Wow. With only one slightly harder braking to keep my car and be safe, I lost over one-fifth of my savings. Very punitive and very poor judgment to program that level of reduced discount to what could only be described as perfectly normal driving action. I'm not impressed with the mathematical model being used in this program. I complained and was told I might regain a higher discount status by driving more and avoiding any more "incidents". In summary. Enrolling in the Plug-In monitoring program gets you an automatic nominal discount on your car insurance. But if you drive fewer kilometres than average and experience typical traffic situations, do not expect any further discounts beyond another nominal 5 to 10%. The 25% discount is rare and only seems to be awarded to some high mileage drivers who travel on clear freeways during daylight hours.

Time for some positivity

-I'm reading a lot of negative comments and feel the need to share how happy I am with Intact.
-I'm with a broker, Cal Mcgarvey, through McDougal Insurance in Napanee. He is always wonderful to talk to and answers all of my questions.
-I was out of province, 12 hours away, when I had an accident, They got me home no problem and gave me a more than fair amount back for my car. We also had to deal with scheduling translators, which should have been difficult but wasn't.. And they didn't drop me after the accident.
-I have 3 tickets and Intact is still the cheapest, by far, and I'm fully covered.
-I highly recommend Intact.

STAY AWAY - AMBIGUOUS THIEVES

by william on Apr 1, 2017

This unethical money grabbing company will completely dismiss the needs of their customer and fully indulge in manipulating you in every way to pay unnecessary fees, go through an overly complex cancellation process, as well as mess up your payment information multiple times and claim it was your fault (even after reviewing recorded conversations). This company should be taken under because its only use is to piss off its customers and steal from them.

Not only did they make a mistake on my payment plan but demanded I payed the balance of $400 the next day or they would cancel my policy! Even after it was their fault. No appology even. They are all women and I dont even think they try to help or make a customer happy. They demand everything and are very unhelpfull. Wont even try to help. Ridiculously expensive to be treated with disrespect! Absolutly disgusting customer service.

WHAT A JOKE

by Justin on Mar 22, 2017

My truck was stolen, no one ever came to see me like they post will happen within 24 hrs. Had to find my own rental cause they couldn't get me one. Had to fight to get reimbursed for the rental, even though they gave me a rate and everything, that I didn't exceed. It took over a year to finally get my vehicle repaired back to normal. Had to fight tooth and nail with them non-stop. Came to the point where I had to almost get a lawyer. They should have wrote the vehicle off, it was brand new, I didn't even have 100 kms on it yet. But they wanted to give me $17,000.00 - that's less than what I just bought it for. Of course I refused, so they fixed it and paid over $2000.00 for what I bought it for to repair it. Makes you wonder why we have to pay for insurance when they can get away with things like this and yet we have to have it and pay for insurance... Why???

RUDE AND SLOW

by Save yourself the hassle on Mar 11, 2017
1 out of 5 stars

My vehicle was stolen. It took them a week before they said they could even start the claim, so I was stuck for a full week without a vehicle. Took them another 2 weeks before they settled my claim. I don't even remember how many people I spoke to trying to get it settled, but every time I had to call to talk to someone, my adjuster wasn't there and the person I spoke with instead was very condescending (on more than one occasion). They drag their heels on getting paperwork ready, they didn't verify my information and somehow had my email address all misspelled (which is just my name @ email.com) so I wasn't even getting the paperwork when they WERE on it. Then when it came time to finally collect, they said it would be at least another week before I would physically receive my money (not what I was told prior)...which is also a week AFTER I had to return the rental car. So I was stuck without a vehicle for an additional week. I've had to make claims before with other companies and I have never had a runaround like this, had this much inconvenience or was spoken to the way I was with Intact. Dumping these guys as soon as my policy is up. I don't even care if someone else costs more. This is NOT how you treat people who just had something bad happen to them.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE

by coiny555 on Mar 10, 2017

We had a family vehicle that was stolen from us. When we got it back, the inside of it was a mess. Intact initially told us that we can either get 9000$ back and our car back so we can repair it on our own with our own mechanic or they can give back 10000$ and not the vehicle. We went with the first option took our car to a mechanic but we came to realize they didn't give us an authority paper which says that we are allowed to repair it on our own means. Initially, the people told us that they'd get back to us and how it was their fault for not sending the required documents and instead labelling our car as "salvation". Later on, we tried getting in contact with the lady and every day a voicemail with our name and number was left for OVER A MONTH. In that period of time, she NEVER got back to us. One day we called her at a different time and she picked up and told us that she'd get back to us again. I think it had been like 3-4 months when she picked up the phone FINALLY. So today we finally get a call back for once and she tells us that she's sorry but our vehicle is a total loss and we won't be able to repair it. THEY TOOK 1000$ BUCKS FROM US. THEY LIE. THEIR COMMUNICATION IS HORRIBLE. SAVE UR TIME AND PATIENCE AND GO TO SOMEONE ELSE. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. Been through such a thought time in a mini 5 seater when we have a family of 8 these past few months. 2 trips all the time. SAVE YOURSELF.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Worst company ever

They will try to write your car off for a minor fender bender. Offer you a low amount for the car. If you fight to have car repaired and succeed. They will cancel you with only 21 days notice by registered mail if you have had 2 or more at fault accidents within 6 years. Don't use them they are horrible.
