Claim still not settled

by Frustrator on Jan 7, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

This insurance claim has been nothing but problems. I would write a long detailed review, but I want to settle this claim first. It has been ongoing and unresolved for over three months now. I am a perfectly reasonable person, and every frustrating step of the way and every communication from them has been so painful and stressful that I'm going to seek out a lawyer this week and pay to bring and end to it. They have it set up as a pretty good racket with your 'adjuster' misinterpreting what you and repair shops say, and then passing the buck to the 'appraiser' who you are not able to talk to directly. They will request information then when you provide it, say something is missing or that's not what they wanted and ask for something completely different. Basically they have put my back so firmly against the figurative wall that I am getting a lawyer out of principle (even though it may not be the most cost effective avenue). They aren't in the least bit interested in finding a settlement, its an 'all or nothing' war of attrition for them.

No End In Sight

Try suing one of Economical Mutuals clients. 4 years and counting with no end in sight. Liability has been established by Worksafe & ICBC. But Economical Mutual wants to go the distance. Unable to find suitable words.

What a nightmare

I had an accident where the other driver was at fault and charged. My 90 year old mother was the passenger, she suffered both physical and emotional pain. The car that was cared for many years by my dad was given to me after he retied from driving was written off. Here is both myself and my mother in shock and the car (a 97 olds cutlas that i could have driven for a few more years with because of its care and mint condition low KM was written off and i was offered what they call cash value of $1500. As someone else posted here i could get another appraiser have it go to what they call and umpire ,i declined and they say they closed the file so i have nothing but i now have to come up with funds from my pocket to buy a vehicle and pay for it with what i receive from my pension.

NOT at a economical company!

by roccojo22 on Jul 17, 2015

Economical Insurance is a company that should not exist. Over a year ago I was in a car accident and I am still dealing the aftermath with my Insurance. I have made only one claim with them because of my accident. Just recently they send me a letter in the mail stating that I have exceeded the "allowable risk factors" and I can no longer be insured with them. Note that I only ever made one claim. Customer service is dreadful as they do not explain their policy's right and the only way to find clear answers is to speak with management.

Ever since I have been insured with this company I always felt like I was being robbed. Before the accident I was paying around $250 a month to insure my vehicle which was a 1999 Chevy. After the accident I had to purchase another vehicle. It took a lot of hassle just to get the company to give me money for my old car which was a total loss. After my new car was purchased ( a 2013 Chrysler) my insurance went through the roof. My premium changed drastically. They adjusted it to be almost $700 a month!!!! What was really bizarre is this was adjusted because of the change of vehicle. The accident wasn't even accounted for yet until the next renewal period. I called to complain about this, and it was actually their fault because of false information in their file.

Any adjustment were sent to me in a very untimely manner. I would receive adjustments to my policy in the mail toward the end of the month when my monthly payment was due. It was ridiculous.

Overall the experience I had with Economical's auto insurance is so below standards that I wish it didn't exist. I actually had more stress dealing with these people than dealing with my well-being after my accident. It was a nightmare. I suggest anyone to stay away from this un-economical and unsatisfying auto insurance company!

If you’re looking for incompetence, endless frustration, and a complete disregard for their customers, Economical Insurance is the perfect choice. My experience with this company has been nothing short of a nightmare, and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

Here’s what I’ve endured:
• Terrible Claim Handling: My car was sent to a body shop they recommended. Instead of fixing the minor damages, the shop unnecessarily repainted large sections of my car, leaving it with mismatched paint and even more issues than it had initially. And guess what? Economical stood by and let it happen.
• Lack of Support: I’ve been without my car for months now, paying for a rental out of my own pocket while continuing to pay insurance premiums. Every step of this process has been a battle to get even basic assistance.
• Dismissive Adjusters: Communication is slow, unhelpful, and borderline rude. Repeated attempts to get answers are met with vague responses or outright indifference. It’s like they don’t care because they know you have no other choice.
• No Accountability: They prioritize protecting themselves and their so-called “trusted” repair shops over their actual customers. Even when presented with evidence of poor workmanship, they offer nothing but excuses.

Economical Insurance has caused me significant financial, emotional, and mental distress. They make their customers fight for every ounce of support, and even then, the results are disastrous. I wouldn’t recommend this company to my worst enemy.

Final Thoughts:
I am committed to ensuring that others don’t suffer the same experience. I will gather every document, piece of evidence, and review I can find, and I will share this story across every platform, social network, and with every relevant authority, including provincial representatives and regulatory bodies. This country cannot be a safe haven for companies like this. We must all do our part to fix what’s broken and hold businesses accountable for their actions.

Save yourself the pain. Economical Insurance is a joke of a company that doesn’t deserve your money or trust. If you care about your car, your sanity, or your time, run in the other direction.

Very disappointing

My daughter’s car was stolen 8 months ago, and she cannot get any information about her claim! She gave them the police report. Since then, she has spent hours and hours trying to get through to the company and then to be told they are still reviewing the file. At one point they told her the car had been recovered only for her to have to tell them it wasn’t her car — not even the same make! How is this allowed to go on? Reading all the reviews today is quite shocking — where do people turn? She is young and is paying her car loan every month and will not be able to get another car until this is resolved. I will be looking for legal help with this mess.

Worthless Insurance

by Resident of Petawawa on Jul 23, 2024
1 out of 5 stars

On April 4th, 2024, I was involved in an accident in Montréal. It takes my insurance company, Economical, almost a month to have my car evaluated at a garage. An agent was in charge of working with their adjuster. It's significant to note that my vehicle is a 2005 Lexus with 480,00 kilometers. Their decision to spend so much money on fixing a 19-year-old car with 480km of mileage is simply unimaginable. I was given a rental for a one-month period by them. But they left me without a vehicle since May 25th until today, July 23rd. I still don't have my car and took back the rental because according to them, my policy is to provide only one month of rental. Additionally, they brought my car to Ottawa from my small town, which is 200 km away. My situation is not valued by them. I have a family and work, and being without transportation in a small town is excruciating. I advise everyone to avoid this worthless insurance called Economical. For the past 30 years, I have owned multiple insurance policies, and this company is by far the worst and does not provide any benefits.

They would rather waste money than pay you for what your car is valued at.

After a no-fault accident, they offered a settlement based on a basic vehicle model, without the same features and not the trim package I had, even after I had sent them many listings for the exact vehicle written off in the collision. At least $2000 less than what I can replace my vehicle for. Then they don't reimburse for any work done to your car in the past 6 months even after asking and getting receipts. They nickel and dime you but are willing to spend more than $1200 to tow my car to an auction house where they will be lucky to get $300 scrap value for it. I wanted to keep my vehicle for parts. They flat out refused. After being a loyal customer of 23 years, I will never buy private insurance from them or recommend them as I have always in the past. They definitely don't uphold the definition of Economical when they make poor financial decisions and treat their customers poorly.

Horrible to deal with for a claim

by Never use economical insurance again on Jun 7, 2024
1 out of 5 stars

From my experience, they are by far the worst company to deal with for a claim. Setting up the claim was straight forward. They were too busy to take a look at the car and wanted it released into their own yard and threatened to charge us storage fees. Many phone calls to them with promises of callbacks, nothing returned. One of the guys who called was very rude on the phone.
